Getting it out there... spreading fan fiction out there

I've been working pretty hard at a fan project written in script form, and I'm at the point where I want to start posting things; I won't be able to track down more writers (beyond our current cast of 2) unless things get out there to get attention.

But... I dunno... I look at what we've done so far and I think it's pretty cool, but I can't picture people sitting down to read a 45 page script. Maybe I have a bad perception of people, I don't know.

What I do know is that I've pushed really hard with prior fan fiction projects via a website, attempted to have an active forum, etc, with adverts on a lot of relevant websites but things didn't take off. That story essentially died about 4 years ago, yet I had some one ask me the other day if it was going to be continuing, that they really enjoyed it.

So how to go about getting it out there? Are people looking for more than just fan fiction? I've tried to get various artists on board but it's been no dice with those I've spoken to, so any means would have to be things that I myself could take on.

I'm at the point on this project where it needs more writers, more fresh blood in order to get off the ground, yet I can't figure out what to do. I'm sure everyone battles this... what's worked?

Well, more or less the main concerns of www.trekbbs.com is prose fanfiction. You'll find script-based hubs at www.virtualstartrek.com, where you'll also find me (the ever self-indulgent Kegg, credited as Hadrian McKeggan), and there's also our respectable rival www.trekonline.org. There's probably more out there, but I'm a small town parochial hick.

Both of them have a number of fan fiction script series running at the moment, all with a number of writers (but always in need of more), and most with artists of various kinds to provide posters and other hijinks.

I'd personally suggest trying to become a writer for one of these shows, getting comfortable with it, and later pursuing your plotted show. One writer who's crossed both sides (and has his hands in everything) is only just now realising a script project he's been nuturing for four years... not saying you wait that long, but IMHO it's worth a shot at collaborating on an existing show to learn the ropes and so on.

I also posted the first script for my series in here, for what it's worth (despite the lack of prose) since I realized it was dumb to not post it here while making this thread lamenting how I want to get it out there!

(and regarding the guy working on the 4 year project... I know how that goes... I've been working on this story for almost 6 now... 'tis why I finally hit the wall and started kicking myself for not actually doing something productive with it)

I'm not sure if I'd have rather started out as a staff writer on someone else's project or not. Admittedly, it would have made creating Endeavour a bit easier because I wouldn't be learning to write at the same time. Plus I'd have had an example to follow (or to not follow as the case might have been) for how to run the series. That probably had a hand in Endeavour's failure, but I'm still greatful for the experiance I gained, because it's made Foundations that much better from the start. Plus the timing just happened to work out as far as going right from Endeavour to Foundations.

Oh, BTW, I'm one of those respectable rivals.
