Geronimo?

It's just occurred to me that geronimo and allons-y actually mean the same thing, more or less: being a bit of a battle cry for "let's go!"

There's no law saying a catchphrase has to be used continuously. Tennant only said "Allonsy" a few times during his tenure.

A bit more than a few times http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3GMkWfpj4s but you make a good point. It's all about perception really, actual usage is irrelevant just look at "Beam me up Scotty".

My god, i never realized how many times he said that. This would have been a good saying for Picard in TNG since he was suppose to be French. "Set course for Starbase 23, Warp 8. Allons-y!!"

he said 'brilliant' and 'weeeeeeell...' a hell of a lot too.

how many times however, did the Brigadier say 'Five rounds rapid!'?

There's no law saying a catchphrase has to be used continuously. Tennant only said "Allonsy" (or however the hell that's spelled - I actually got flamed on this board for getting it wrong a few months ago. Get a life) a few times during his tenure. Tom Baker only asked people if they wanted jelly babies a few times, too. And the phrase "Oh my giddy aunt" which is associated with the Second Doctor I think was only used once - and I think that was in the later Two Doctors appearance!

I can almost swear he used that phrase more than that. I'm almost certain it was said in The Krotons and The Seeds of Death.

^Yeah, Number Two used that phrase quite a few times. Enough for it to get attached to his character. Same with Reversing the Polarity and all that. Pertwee used that many times, but always in different forms.

As for someone saying Baker offered Jelly Babies a "few times"....about as few as Tennant's "Allons-y" nonsense. ;)

He probably uses it all the time, just off screen. When he is alone, or with somebody intimate.

I'm sure in some shots, we will hear him scream GERONIMO off in the distance.

:)

Every jelly baby scene ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfisgGuuUD8

I've resurrected the necrotic remains of this thread because I'd like to submit what I think will be the actual catchphrase of Smith's first season:

"Bow ties are cool."

I seem to recall seeing/hearing an interview with Moffat where he said that Geronimo was only written to be used once or something, and Matt ended up yelling it again in one scene and it just seemed to work so they kept it. It isn't meant to be a catchphrase.

He also says "okay" a lot too, and may I say the way he says it sounds very sexy!

Actually, his catchphrase appears to be "bow ties are cool!." He's said that more than geronimo.

He's also said "Something very, very not good" a few times (or variations on that).

To put all this into context, Troughton was supposedly given a proclivity for different types of hats and the catchphrase "I would like a hat like that" was trialled but later dropped - only ever being heard in The Power of the Daleks and The Highlanders. Perhaps "Geronimo" falls into the same category (which would seem appropriate given Smith's fondness for the Trout)...
