I see Patterns of Force German VHS on Ebay.

Were there any other German releases, or indeed did any other country besides America, the UK or Australia release TOS on VHS?

The worst one is Dagger of the Mind: Der Zentralnervensystemmanipulator. The Central Nervous System Manipulator.
Or The Galileo Seven: Notlandung auf Galileo 7. Emergency Landing on Galileo 7.
Or TNG Q Who: Zeitsprung mit Q. Time Travel (literally time jump) with Q. The translator thought that lightyears mean time

When I watch Netflix it always takes me a moment to remember here it's know as "Spaceship Enterprise" officially.............

I know the Clamshell DVDs have the all languages option but all I've ever done is watch a snippet or two of Mudd's Women in Spanish! :techman:

It's funny in French, I have the French VHS of First Contact! Worf saying je suis un Klingon is hilarious, and Data is Datt-áh, and Riker is Rie-kèhr...

One of the Menagerie foreign languages uses a different music score. I think they use a lot from Who Mourns for Adonais, and I have a feeling they use the music stems from 'Whom God's Destroy', not sure if Neil or anyone could confirm?

Here's some French:

But German is probably funny as well for non-speakers:

Fits Khan and Chang, though!

Unnessecary Nerd Trivia:

There are actually two different german dubs of TNG.

1#
Before TNG was picked up by SAT1 (one of the first private tv stations here in Germany) CIC (the european home video branch of Paramount) published the first few episodes on VHS. This first dub translated many terms into german that had been left in english in TOS / TOS-Movies and tended to produce such gems like "Ich will es auf dem Schirm!" ("I want it on the screen!") for "On Screen" etc..

CIC stopped publishing TNG when it started airing on SAT1 who luckily decided to order their own much better dub, which was as accurate as dubs came here during that time period.

This was before my time..but apperantly around the time of "The Search For Spock" the first german Trek fanclubs and groups existed and they weren´t overly impressed by the translation used for that movie. One of those groups actually managed to not only get in contact with the dubbing studio for the forth movie (Which is called "Zurück in die Gegenwart / Back to the present" in German because the translation of "The Voyage Home" sounds like a movie about a dog trying to find home) but also talk them into beeing allowed to help writing / editing the dubbing script.. (quite a feat before the internet, don´t you think?) which lead to some very great lines that sometimes are even funnier then the original lines without changeing the context of the scene.

For example, the scene where Gillian asks Spock "Sure you won´t change your mind?" and he answers "Is something wrong with the one I have?". This was initially translated as something that translated back into english would be: "Don´t you want to think about this once more?" - "No, I don´t think I do".

Thanks to the fan group what finally ended up in the dub was: "Are you sure you don´t want to beat that out of your head?" - "I don´t see any reason for self-mutilation".

Chekov is rolled out of the operating room.
OV: Wasn't it a girl? - One little mistake...
GV: Wasn't it a girl? - It was sex reassignment surgery.

I've had a look, and I'm pretty sure the Spanish dub of The Menagerie uses the music stems for Who Mourns for Adonais? for Part 1 and 2, with the stems from Whom Gods Destroy also being used in part 2. Talos atmosphere, and some of the transporter beaming, also use weird sound effects. Quite why they changed it, and only for this story, is a mystery.

In the GV, the whole fight in Amok Time was just a fever dream. And the Bolian in DS9 Field of Fire had co-wives instead of a husband and a wife.
The best one is in TNG Remember, where Beverly asks the computer: "what is this crap I'm seeing?!" They took the word mist and kept it (mist means crap, dung, manure)

I can only guess, but maybe there was no localisation track available from paramount for some reason or it didn´t arrive in time so they had to cobble something together from other episodes localisation tracks to meet their deadline.

Beeing a voice actor in training who´s just begun learning acting for dubbing I can safely say this: Its no error per se but neccesary because of the lip movents. The problem is that the german word for "mist" is "Nebel" which has one sylable more then "mist" and also the syilable "ne" gives you a totally different "mouth shape" then "mi". Crushers lips are seen fully from the front when she says this, so there would be no getting away with "Nebel"...(sometimes this is possible if the actor in question is standing in a certain type of profile or the image cuts away while he´s speaking).
