George Takei's wedding

Lieutenant Commander

Heard something really funny the other day, Shatner isn't invited to George Takei's wedding. Funny, huh.

Why would he be? They hate each other. If Takei would invite him, Shatner would snub him and not show, so may as well launch a pre-emptive snub by not inviting him at all. :)

Why don't they like each other?

Most of the secondary cast of TOS didn't like Shatner. If you read the books they put out, they all thought he was so full of himself. According to them, he often had the writers re-write scenes, basically "stealing" lines from the secondary characters and giving them to Kirk.

I think Nimoy and De Kelly were the only ones that got along with him (in later years) but the rest of the cast didn't care for him much.

I remember reading where Doohan called Shatner a "bastard" and that was probably being nice.

Of course, Shatner plays dumb about it, not understanding why everyone thought he was such a prick.

Hm, it makes me wonder: if Doohan and Kelley were alive, would they be invited as well? (I don't see why not, of course)

The fact that Nimoy will be there as one of the specially picked guests, and Koenig and Nichols will be part of the ceremony itself, just warms my heart.

it's kinda sad actually. I mean, to see people in their 60s and 70s carry grudges for this long AND act on them. ugh. a marriage should be a fresh start. not only between you and your bride/groom but also in your own life.

I hear he's opening an eatery on Santa Monica Blvd. called "Sulu's House of Deep Fried Regulan Blood Worms".

Reservations required.

There is an assumption that working on Star Trek makes people BFF. It ain't necessarily so.

No one's questioning why Mr. Takei doesn't invite every actor he's ever worked with, or every director or every grip or everyone in the makeup department.

Truth. After all, this is Takei's wedding, not Shatner's. I love Shatner, really, but this is Takei's and Brad's moment.

Paul McCartney didn't invite Yoko Ono to his wedding to Heather Mills, either.

But it would have been a little classier (or perhaps confrontational) if he had.

Shatner and Takei need an intervention to exorcise the bad blood from 1969.

I'm sure neither of them thinks it is necessary, but I need closure, damn it.

Oh please...just because he worked with the man doesn't make them friends. If it's true that Shatner wasn't invited, it's more likely George had a lot of interaction with Walter, Nichelle and Leonard over the years and may actually consider them friends. I have many former co-workers and some qualify as friends and others do not (even if we are friend-ly). I'm not going to invite the latter category to a very personal event just because I worked with them. It isn't necessarily about grudges, but about who's your ACTUAL friend.

Sorry, you're right. To Takei, Shatner was just some arrogant bastard he worked with; they didn't "serve" together.

Just sometimes I make this show a little too real.
