George Takei's wedding

From Associated Press report:

George Takei, who played Sulu on the original "Star Trek,''
beamed as he and his partner of 21 years, Brad Altman, obtained
one of the new gender-neutral marriage licenses … with the
words "Party A" and "Party B"' instead of "bride" and
"groom" … at the West Hollywood City Hall. They are planning
a September wedding.
"I see before me people who personify love and
commitment," a grinning Takei told the crowd. He flashed the
Vulcan hand salute from "Star Trek" and, in a twist on the
Vulcan greeting from the TV series, said: "May equality live
long and prosper."

That's tremendous! :techman:

Oh please...just because he worked with the man doesn't make them friends. If it's true that Shatner wasn't invited, it's more likely George had a lot of interaction with Walter, Nichelle and Leonard over the years and may actually consider them friends. I have many former co-workers and some qualify as friends and others do not (even if we are friend-ly). I'm not going to invite the latter category to a very personal event just because I worked with them. It isn't necessarily about grudges, but about who's your ACTUAL friend.

Exactly. Takei, Nichols and Koenig are actually very close IRL.

Lessee...work conflicts, conflicts with beloved guests and their schedules, plus planning a wedding, booking an appropriate location, securing a caterer, a band, ordering flowers, etc. etc. etc.

There's lots of reasons actually HAVING a wedding can take longer than you think.

Having said that, my ex-wife and I were married within 3 days of "popping the question".

I've never been to a civil cefrmony but in the church ones dont you sign the marrage contract after the cermony?

Why not just do that?
He can do whatever the hell he wants Im just curious

It may vary in different states, but you get a marriage license before the wedding, when you pay the fee and register you're given a certificate and a form to send to the state after the nuptials actually take place.

Does anybody know if George and Brad are having a civil or religious ceremony?

Colbert talked about Takei's wedding on his latest show, they should have the video up in a day or two on the Comedy Central site.

Inside Edition talked to them, and they said that Shatner was on the list, but if he makes the final cut is another thing.

I also read in Shatner's Autobiography where the secondary cast didn't get along wth Shatner at all cause he was such a pre-madonna and so full of himself. And Mom read in the newspaper this morning about Takei's wedding. :D She almost threw up. But I told her that he was getting married. :)

Best to George and Brad. :techman: Fuck you, Bill! In the good way.

Agreed. George is a great guy, I wish him and Brad all the happiness in the world.

Come on. Is this really necessary?

None of us know the whole truth about the issues between the two of them...and I'm sure there is amble blame to go around - on both sides. They are actors. They have huge egos, every one of them. It's sorta in the job description.

I couldn't care less who George Takei invites to his wedding. On the flip side, I couldn't care less who Shatner invites to his birthday party or whatever. That is their personal private business.

But is it really necessary to turn this thread into a Shatner-bashing deal? I mean, it does get rather tedious.

Why not focus on the positive, rather than on this sort of thing? Or is Takei that uninteresting a person that it is impossible to have a thread about him without Shatner?
