George Takei Rumor?

Devon

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
This was just posted on the IMDB's Trek 2008 board.

The latest Starburst magazine in England has repeated a rumour I had heard before: that George Takei is in a scene with Leonard Nimoy in the new Star Trek film. Is this true? Because I have not heard this elsewhere except for these two sources (sorry, I can't remember what the other source was). The scene supposedly takes place in the 'future' ie post-Kirk era, as opposed to Academy/TOS era.

This is completely news to me (the rumor that is.)

I thought it would have been cool if the movie started on the Excelsior with Sulu commanding and having Spock beam over for whatever the movie premise is. I hope this is true.

Now wouldn't that just piss Shatner off even more?

It's not a rumor...Takei came out of the closet some time ago.

[actually reads thread]

Oh. Never mind. :D

If it takes place in the post-Kirk era when Spock's an old d00d, surely that would make Sulu a good deal past 100? that would be an action packed scene.

I want Toshiro Mifune for Admiral Nogura.

What? Oh, right...

well, can we at least get Ken Watanabe? Pretty please? Assuming that Nogura is in the movie. Which, like Harcourt Fenton Mudd, we've no evidence of (yet. You just know Mudd is in the movie).

Takei could play Admiral Nogura in a cameo, only.

Careful, some people around here get pretty sensitive to that suggestion! ;)

Of course, that could explain a scene with Nimoy as time-traveling Old Spock interacting with Takei as a Fleet Captain Nogura (presuming he was promoted and thus Pike took over his position).

Since the Old Spock era would apparently be post-Nemesis, one would think Sulu would be dead by that time: this essentially is the conclusion made when Chakotay and Tuvok bring him up in Star Trek: Voyager.

But I'm sure we'd all agree that if Mudd were in Star Trek (2008) it would be wonderful if J. G. Hertzler were in the role! (Then his reprising it in Star Trek: New Voyages makes all the more sense! Heh.)
