Generation Kill - the miniseries!

I don't have real Internet access for the moment, so maybe this is old news... but has anyone seen Generation Kill yet?
It's like "Over There"... but with a real budget and probably less lesbian sex.
From the first episode, it feels like a modern day Band of Brothers, but much more grittier and more procedural. At the very least racial tension exists in this military while it was pretty much whitewashed (heh) in Band of Brothers.

And anyway, think of it as a spiritual sequel to The Wire.

Don't have the show on me right now But what I remembered was the letters they were reading came from a class in Maryland. The little sussie parts.

Yup, looking forward to the second ep. I heard that episode 2 is when they show off their HBO money.

They certainly did. Very cool. Lots of HBO money. Lots. Never seen anything like it outside of a movie. And fairly graphic.

Yeah, I'm definately digging this series. Shame it's only gonna run 7 episodes. This could be a full 13 episode series if they wanted it to. Or mutli-season run.

What makes this series look more realistic in terms of environment is the filming location. In Over There, they filmed that in Mexico. This here, they filmed it in South Africa and Mozambique. Which to me looks exactly like Iraq.

The first episode was about like the "Curahee" episode from Band of Brothers. Kind of just a set-up episode to establish the characters. The second episode is when the shit begins.

Ah, yeah... if anything, the cities look like real locations and not a location that's been dressed up.

I'm not sure why 7 seems to be the magic number. The John Adams thing was 7 episodes as well.

Just an arbitrary number they came up with, I'd imagine. The miniseries is culled from a book, more so than John Adams was I think.

Yup. This is obligatory the "killed innocent people" episode.
I kind of wish things didn't have a neat ending, but that they sort of tried to blend the storylines into the next episode. For whatever reason, it just makes it feel artificial.

Also, it seems like the US Military would run so much better without officers.

Seems like a running trend not only in Generation Kill but also Band of Brothers. I think it goes to show officers are humans just like the enlisted. But where as the enlisted have more level headed people to talk them down, the ranks get kind of thin the higher you go.

I dunno, Captain America seems much worse than Captain Sobel.

It makes you wonder why they don't just make more enlisted dudes officers instead though.
