I was referring to "Resolutions", near the end of Season 2.

I believe they mention how many years have passed in several episodes and it more or less lines up as one year per season.

in First Contact, Data say it had been 8 years and some amount of days since he was “fully functional” with Tasha. So that more or less lines up.

I think it was mentioned somewhere at the end of VOY that they've been on their way for 7 years as well.

Like the carbon unit said. Popularity is not a sign of untruth. Clichés become cliché for a reason.

Hmm a new twist in the field of logical fallacy. The argument from unpopularity. "That is too popular to be right or good" or, "This is right or good because no one likes it." Could also be called the Hipster Argument.

He probably did. We never saw that though; TOS as I recall never got into Starfleet politics like that, like they did sometimes in TNG. But Spock never struck me as the type that wanted to be in a position of power like being the captain of his own ship anyway.

Especially after his experience on the Galileo.

Sometime after the original mission, Spock took a leave from Starfleet and went to Vulcan to attain the Kolinar discipline. That's why he wasn't any higher then. By Star Trek II, he was captain of the Enterprise.

That and occasionally sending someone to their death. Ugly as it is, a captain must be ready to do that.

Since you mention that, and as I recall it, he was able to make the Hard Choice there, taking a calculated, if awful, risk -- and it paid off. That is one of the qualities I'd associate with a commander.

That, I think, was Kes's point in "Resolutions". The logical thing for Tuvok to do was obey orders and avoid the Vidiians, after all. But there was more to the decision than logic, because of the often illogical nature of the human-heavy crew.

Hmm.. I don't recall anyone on TOS distrusting Spock, though.

Outside of Scotty the whole shuttle crew was constantly questioning his decisions. Boma and McCoy flat out yelling at him multiple times.

Should've provided context to that comment: I meant 'overall, in the entirety of TOS'.

Balance of Terror, Lt. Stiles distrusts Spock. It is one of the few examples of overt racism among the crew in the show.

Original Star Trek: Killed after 3 seasons.
Later: Star Trek beloved by all.
The Next Generation: Originally revolved as not being Trek.
Later: Absolutely adored.
Deep Space 9: Originally disliked. Remember one Trekkie saying "I even sat through the whole first season of DS9..."
Nowadays: Considered best Trek ever by some.

Seems like every new Trek has to deal with growing pains, but they always seem to prevail...
