General Trek Questions and Observations

Stay classy, fan fic writers.

Way too late for that.

My wife has a 150 part (if not longer) Hobbit fic that she has been working on for years. We have read a lot. And seen a lot...some things just are...indescribable..

Indescribably indescribable.

150 part? Time to find a conclusion lest she create Battlefield (Middle) Earth

I've written fan fic, but never shippers. I'm of the opinion that erotica is a poor fit in Trek. And I've seen the example that proves it.

Oh, and no, I would NOT speak of the quality of your wife's writing, I have never seen it. I would assume it is better than L. Ron Hubbard.

We knew it as "Pumpkin Pie", because a certain famous (or infamous) fanfic had them share a kiss at Christmas that tasted like... you guessed it, pumpkin pie. But we had a club named HARMONY, and another named RHYTHM. HARMONY supported the Ron/Hermione pairing, and RHYTHM thought it was a disaster.

I only know the best harry Potter fanfiction ever was My Immortal. I'd pay to see that dumpster fire filmed haha.

The Evil Green Tummy Monster sequence in the 6th book actually reminded me of some rather bad fanfiction I've read. Unfortunately, it was by the author.

It's Ok, Jo. You're still an amazing writer.

It's not a "fan theory".

It's a fact.

:guffaw:

Doctor + Torres = Doctorres

That one seems random.

I'm still trying to come up with an inappropriate abbreviation for the Kirk/Spock pairing, but nothing comes to mind. Anyone have any ideas?

Perhaps. The translator has to use some dialect, so why shouldn't you be able to choose?

I figured Picard learned English in school, and English as a second language is usually taught with an English Received Pronounciation dialect, so that's not the translator, it's him. But the crew who don't really speak English are probably using the translator all the time: Troi, Worf, the Klingons, Romulans, Ferengi, etc.
English is the primary language of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and France*. French is still spoken by a few oldtimers in rural areas.

*Britain re-acquired it's Continental holdings in the 21st Century.
;)

In "The Enemy" Beverly and her team bring in a stretcher to carry the wounded Romulan out of the transporter room. Memory Alpha calls it an anti-grav lift although it didn't look very "anti-grav" to me. But what's the purpose of this thing when they have transporters? Seems kind of unwieldy to wheel--er, I mean gravitate--this thing around when they could just beam an injured person right to sickbay.

I think it's just to give the actors something physical to do.

In universe, one would have to assume it's for situations where the transporter is out of action/unavailable for some reason or else for specific types of injuries/illnesses or specific species for which transporter use would be considered too dangerous.

Even in the TNG era, I think site-to-site transport was not preferred, except in emergency situations, and health-wise, they used it only when the situation absolutely demanded it. Things have probably changed by the time of Picard and definitely by the time of late Discovery where transporter use is so ubiquitous even within small installations.

Of course, the logical solution to this would be to have a dedicated transporter pad in Sickbay. Why that has not been shown... *shrugs*

That is a VERY good QUESTION! Continuing a 50+ year tradition TPTB have not asked me, or you.

I could see a Worf/Tasha pairing. She's one of the women who would find him (as Guinan said) "tame". Certainly better than Worf/Troi (I actually confess that I liked the Riker/Troi pairing).

I would have liked to know who those women were. Tasha might have been one of them (not sure) but unfortunately, they never showed us other potential examples of that 'group' on TNG. At least, none that come to mind right now.
