General Trek Questions and Observations

Anyone else here watching the "Star Trek Day" special streaming live right now Paramount Plus?

It's OK so far but now they have a dude beatboxing for no reason (but he's really good at it).
He was not even that good. Last year they had hosts who didn't know what to say or do. Now they have random, boring beat guy and Mulgrew in the middle of the happy Prodigy panel blurting out that the Queen died, leading to an awkward laugh from the guy who voices Dal... and that guy with the beard who rambled on about ...I don't even know what... in his 'panel'

Guy with the beard -- you mean Brian Posehn? He's usually a very good standup comedian but I agree that this set was pretty rough.

I did not enjoy Reggie Watts' beatboxing at all. But I thought Paul F. Tompkins and Tawny Newsome were great as hosts, and I also liked Jackie Cox and Mary Chieffo on the red (purple) carpet. The behind-the-scenes thing for Disco was fun (Tilly confirmed!). Plus we are getting Carol Kane as Chief Engineer of the Enterprise, which is all kinds of awesome.

I'm just watching "Whom Gods Destroy" and I'm wondering;

Why is that Orion woman (Martha?) flushed with what's clearly a green spotlight in some scenes? It seems to happen randomly and in various different rooms, so it doesn't seem like it's meant to happen in-universe. It even changes randomly from shot to shot.
Were some of the scenes/shots filmed with her in Orion make-up and the rest was filmed without it with the green spotlight meant to mask that?

Did anyone here just wanna punch Wesley Crusher in the TNG episode Journey's End? With the way he was being such a shithead to everybody on the Enterprise? TNG did a great job at rehabbing Wesley since season 1 up till then to make him tolerable........only for them to make everyone want to hate him again! Fuck you Wesley!

THIS POST HAS SPOILERS FROM SEASON 4 OF DISCOVERY!

I don't know if this has already been asked, but why do some of the highly advanced alien species in Star Trek, can't see or understand when a less evolved species is intelligent? For example, in a recent Discovery episode,
the Ten C didn't know or understand on their own that the humans and other alien species on Discovery were intelligent beings, until after great effort on the part of the crew of the Discovery. Plus, they seemed oblivious that there were vast parts of spaces that they used the DMA may have intelligent, sentient beings who lived on various planets in those areas of space. And I know that one of the crew gave an analogy of humans looking at monkeys, but is that really a fair comparison?
Also, there was an episode from TOS that I can't remember (but perhaps someone else will) where there was a similar alien species that was so advanced, that they weren't aware that humans well intelligent creatures. Even with humans spaceships and technology.

However, since turn around is far play, there were microscopic aliens in an episode of TNG that they crew had no idea they were sentient, however, it's not as if they had technology that the Enterprise crew could see. And I don't remember the name of that episode, but when the crew of the Enterprise were finally able to commute with these aliens, they would referred to the humans as ugly bags of bone or something like that.

Therefore, can anyone answer these question?

Im gonna invite her, AND the Duras sisters for a visit to my holosuite.
I'll tell Bashir to keep his trauma team on standby.

Here's a thought... Riker grew a beard. TNG got better. Sisko grew a beard. DS9 hit its stride. So, which main cast member on Voyager should have grown a beard, and what kind?
A. Tom Paris grows some "Thirty Days" stubble.
B. Harry Kim grows an Apollo Ono soul patch.
C. Tuvok unleashes his inner Mirror Spock with a goatee.

Perception. The dialogue in that Discovery episode ( and/or a few up to then) made it clear 10-C were so incredibly advanced that they may not perceive humanoids as sentient.

C without question.

Yes, I understand that, but the problem that I have with that is that weren't these incredibly advanced civilizations less evolved at one time, therefore, why wouldn't they be able to see themselves in a less evolved civilization? Kind of like in an episode in TNG where Riker and some others from the Enterprise were stuck on this planet with Ferengies who were misbehaving, but eventually, the advanced being who were testing them had a conversation with Riker, and Riker said to this being that we were once like the Ferengies (as far as their greed and misbehavior), therefore, Riker was able to see morally less advanced beings in them.

Same thing with stone age people. Because even though we are far more advanced than they are, we would still be able to recognize an ancientness in them that we once had. But with the advanced beings that I had mentioned in various ST episodes, to me, it's almost as if they are so smart and so advanced, that it almost makes them kind of dumb where they can't even recognize other intelligent, sentient beings and how they once were. But that's just my opinion.

we are still exactly the same as we were in the Stone Age.
