Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

That proposed series on Nickelodeon I've been thinking about it and well how do kids stumble upon a starship and let alone are able to fly it?

They're "lawless teens". Presumably they have a genius among them, and the ship is idiot-proof enough to survive for some time. It could be far enough in the future for easier-to-run ships.

Guess we will find out next year ;)

Pretty sure they’re teenagers though, as opposed to young kids, so they likely have some familiarity with how the ships fly etc?

But still is Starfleet that careless it leaves whole ships lying around even in deep space?
Do we know for a fact it's a Starfleet ship?
I don't really know enough about the show to judge any of this yet. There could be a very good reason that they find the ship and are able to fly it, but we just don't know it yet.

It seems they're just dusting off the premise of Space Cases, but, hey, they could do far worse. I love me some Space Cases.

So, interesting thought:

Presumably, we'll likely come across a Romulan or two on this show in its new time setting, albeit not as a heavy focus, given how Picard is focusing on them. The Discovery crew would, until now, have no idea about the connection between the Vulcan's and the Romulan's.

Might be a nice moment!

Given Michael's close relationship to Vulcan, she might explain in detail on how Romulans must be related to the diaspora that broke off in Surak's time.

I remember a book from the 1970's, a big coffee table book that had fantastic paintings of spaceships and a bit of story for each one. The original Enterprise was actually in it. Its fate? Stolen by teenagers and destroyed.

I think I had the same or similar book. I had a few of those and big artbook of scifi spaceships and they all had bios for all the ships in the book.

Hummnn...
I believe I still have mine.
They were oversize, quite colorful and not very thick.
If I remember correctly, I think I ordered them from a STARLOG magazine.
(though, I may be mixing up my memories)

STARLOG had a SPACESHIP book out, but I think what your talking about is something different.
Now I'm going to have to go through my boxes and see if I can find them.

Yeah, I got my memories confused... :brickwall:

I believe this is the one you were talking about....
They were published between 1978-1980.

(there were four of these published, I have all four)

(I do now remember buying these from a WALDEN's bookstore in a local mall. I worked at MONTGOMERY WARDS in the same mall back then)

This is the STARLOG one I was thinking of ...
(and I did order this from an ad in a STARLOG magazine)

I still have it as well.

I came across this tidbit in a chat transcript with Author Larry Niven:
Has anyone from Paramount ever called you about using the Kzinti again? Are we going to see them in Star Trek Discovery?
Larry Niven: The Kzinti are active in a series of books, THE MAN-KZIN WARS. You won’t see them on Star Trek, I think.

I know Manny Coto wanted to use the Kzinti on ENT if the show had gone one more season. But I haven't heard any talk of them being on Discovery, though with advancements in CGI they are more possible now.
