Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Hummnn...
I believe I still have mine.
They were oversize, quite colorful and not very thick.
If I remember correctly, I think I ordered them from a STARLOG magazine.
(though, I may be mixing up my memories)

STARLOG had a SPACESHIP book out, but I think what your talking about is something different.
Now I'm going to have to go through my boxes and see if I can find them.

Yeah, I got my memories confused... :brickwall:

I believe this is the one you were talking about....
They were published between 1978-1980.

THAT'S THE ONE!!!!!!!!!

I fricking love that book... I just wish I could find my copy

Probably a silly question, but do we have an actual screen date for season 3 yet?

The producers have said that both Discovery and Lower Decks will be ready by May and it is up to CBS AA to decide when to make them available:

I doubt if CBS would use Discovery during summer months but an animated series is a good fit for that time. So they probably start Lower Decks in May and we may not see Discovery season 3 until September/October.

Nope. Producer has stated it will be all finished and ready to release by May, though. Same as Lower Decks, so just up to CBS to schedule them how they want.

I came across this tidbit in a chat transcript with Author Larry Niven:
Has anyone from Paramount ever called you about using the Kzinti again? Are we going to see them in Star Trek Discovery?
Larry Niven: The Kzinti are active in a series of books, THE MAN-KZIN WARS. You won’t see them on Star Trek, I think.

I know Manny Coto wanted to use the Kzinti on ENT if the show had gone one more season. But I haven't heard any talk of them being on Discovery, though with advancements in CGI they are more possible now.
Coto wanted to use them, but there were never any actual contract discussions with Mr. Niven about that.
(and that's according to him several years ago)

And I don't think that the ENTERPRISE producers (re: Berman) would have been all too keen on paying what I'm sure would have been rather hefty licensing fees, even if They had OK'd the Fifth Season.

Niven has stated in the past that he is a bit disgruntled about the minimal monetary payment he got from his work on TAS.
(he, like several folks, also had a bit of a 'falling-out' with Gene)

I'm sure he would love to make up for that now by sticking it to CBS.

Seems like Discovery might owe a little something to the Star Trek novel "Crossroad" by Barbara Hambly, and its yagghorth named Nemo.

Yesterday, I watched "Best of Both Worlds, Part I" with my partner, who's never really seen TNG but grew interested after the Picard premiere. And this exchange really struck me:

GUINAN: This isn't the end.

PICARD:
You say that with remarkable assuredness.

GUINAN: With experience. When the Borg destroyed my world, my people were scattered throughout the universe. We survived - as will humanity survive. As long as there's a handful of you to keep the spirit alive, you will prevail - even if it takes a millennium.

This seems like precisely the scenario that Discovery S3 is playing with. It's interesting to me because a friend of mine (who's upset about the direction Discovery is taking the Federation; the words "Roddenberry" and "desecration" were used) says that Guinan's quote is a totally different situation, but I don't know. When S3 ends, I'd be surprised if this sentiment isn't a neat encapsulation of the season.

You know, I still refuse to believe that Paradise et al weren't thinking about the Borg when coming up with Control. I mean seriously...

"Struggle is pointless"
Nanoprobes
Proto-assimilation
The trademark green hue
and so on.

I hope its just a smokescreen like when Goldman declared that Spock would never be on Discovery.
