Airiam's nature has been subject to a number of divergent background statements. StarTrek.com described Airiam as being a "synthetic-Human hybrid", while Ted Sullivan tweeted that she was an alien. Meanwhile After Trek: "Episode 3" described her species as "augmented alien", while After Trek: "Episode 5", involving Gretchen J. Berg, Neville Page, and Glenn Hetrick called her instead an "augmented Human".

IMDB for S2 had listed Hannah Cheesman just as "Airiam 2.5", but now it's changed to "Lt. Cmdr. Airiam" for the first 2 episodes and "Airiam 2.5" for 1 episode.

Sara Mitich is listed as "Lt. Nilsson" for 3 S2 episodes including Brother. She might be the one helping set up the gravity simulator if they kept her blond hair.

Anybody see any other references to this? The Airiam makeup does look different so far and that does look like Sara on the left.

So I could assume "Airiam 2.5" was confusion about a possible second Airiam? I was actually hoping another one showing up would lead to some explanation of exactly what she is.

It could. But also bear in mind that in "Lethe" it's close-quarters with a confined interior and Klingons who appear to be obviously holographic when you hit them. In "Elementary, Dear Data" it's not confined. You see what looks like an entire 19th Century city as far as the eye can see. That takes far more depth to create than the inside of a Klingon ship where the walls are all nearby.

Gees, I'm only about a 2 hour drive from there and I have as of yet made the time to go.
I should plan a trip up this summer as well.

Just started a re-watch of Voyager, currently on ep 1 S1, because it's been an age, and also distract myself until Friday and the new episode of Discovery.

But I think Discovery has become one of favorite of the Trek series, I love the others (although I've only seen 1 or 2 episodes of TOS) but yeah, Discovery is definitely my fave.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Tyler again, and seeing how he's changed.

I didn't notice it in the promo (elevator scene), but I did notice while watching episode 1, Linus has two sets of eyelids, vertical & horizontal. Is that CGI or really good physical work?

The Klingons can have interaction with them. Arguably Section 31. As long as it's not Starfleet. They already pulled the "classified" card once with the Mirror Universe. I think twice would be pushing it a little.
