Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

The Klingons can have interaction with them. Arguably Section 31. As long as it's not Starfleet. They already pulled the "classified" card once with the Mirror Universe. I think twice would be pushing it a little.
They could also do what they did in Enterprise, and only let the audience see what they really look like.

There's no way in Hell that the Romulans WOULD NOT be taking complete advantage of the conflict between the Federation and the Klingons.

Just because they have chosen not to interact with Star Fleet Ships or make themselves known to the Federation, doesn't mean they aren't still out there sneaking around.
Especially since ENTERPRISE has already shown us that the Romulans are quite adept at posing as Vulcans.

I totally expect to see them appear in DISCOVERY.

Addendum:
I'd actually like to see a story that builds upon what we know about the Romulans creating their Plasma Torpedo.
At this point it should probably be in the design stage or perhaps even a prototype.
Since it's about ten years before they actually test it against a Star Fleet ship, it would be interesting to see them try it out on the Klingons and have it be totally Unsuccessful.
A complete setback for the program and they have to go back to the drawing board.

^ I wonder what ultimately prompted the Romulans to attack Outpost 4 in "Balance of Terror"? That's possibly something DSC can lay the groundwork for.

As it is, it looks like 100 years of no interaction and then suddenly they decide to attack. It's like an enemy nation from WWI suddenly deciding to attack today, after not having done so for the entire century leading up to it.

So the Superbowl is this weekend and is on CBS. I have no idea how much of the super commercial time they've set aside for their own programming, but I wonder if we'll see a Disco/Star Trek/CBSAA related commercial.

I was thinking that they might have a thirty-second spot teasing the return of Spock to a Star Trek series, given it seems like it might be next week.

Though, if it were me, I think the better bet might be to a short Picard teaser - something they could throw together with Pat in a day to nostalgia-bait the fortysomething dudebro dads who watched TNG in college.

Or maybe they might just "happen across" Patrick Stewart at the game and interview him: ;)

Jim Nantz to Tony Romo (Booth Announcers): We have an injury on the field. So let's take a timeout.
You know, Tony, this game attracts all sorts of people, and our sideline reporter Evan Washburn is in the skybox and caught up with one who is really "far out".

Tony: Oooooo...far out!

Evan Washburn (Reporter): Thanks Jim and Tony. Like you said, this game attracts all sorts of people, celebrities among them. I'm here with Patrick Stewart, who many people know better as Captain Jean Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Hello Patrick, are you enjoying the game so far?

Patrick Stewart: Ah -- yes. As a huge fan of the American Football, it's only natural that I come and watch the Super Game that is the Championship of the American Football National Football League. This is game is fantastic. Thomas Brady is really good -- as is that other player who throws the ball for the team from Los Angeles, Gerald...something.

...Oh, and of course there's Gronk; I just love to say "Gronk", because his name sounds like something a Klingon from Star Trek would eat. Gronk! "[imitaing a Klingon] It is dishonorable not to eat your Gronk!" Maybe I'll get the writers of my new Star Trek show to include that.

Evan: I'm glad you just coincidentally happen to bring that up. As you just mentioned, you are working on a new Star Trek TV series for CBS. What can you tell us and the people at home about it?

Patrick: Yes. It's a show that will take place several years after "The Next Generation" and will be on CBS All Access, which as you are aware is the home to another hit Star Trek series called Star Trek: Discovery, plus many other great original shows you can stream, along with past episodes of many of your favorite CBS shows, like NCIS and The Big Bang Theory. CBS All Access. Look for my new show to come out sometime in the near future, only on CBS All Access streaming service.

Evan: Thanks for your time Sir Patrick, and we will be sure to look for your new Star Trek series on CBS All Access, joining the great line up of other quality programming already there. I'll let you go so you can...umm..."engage" with the game [chuckles].

Patrick: Ha ha yes, "engage". And I will "make it so!" [both laugh]

Jim Nantz: Ha ha! And we're back. Thanks Patrick. We'll be sure to look for your show on CBS All Access, the streaming service from CBS. The injured player is being carted off the field with what looks like a serious knee injury....

... Jim Nantz: Just a minute... there seems to be some activity back on the field around Patrick Stewart... Yes... ... ... Someone who bears a resemblance to William Shatner has burst through security and is chasing Patrick Stewart around the sidelines with what appears to be a large white phallus shaped stalactite shouting: "Suck it Stewart!" <screen goes black>

You thought waayy too hard about this, dude.

Though most of my friends aren't dudebros, most of them are on the 30s/40s cusp. Whenever one of us turns 40, we call it "crossing over". We did the same thing 10 years ago with 30. But anyway, they almost all watched TNG. And a lot of them are excited about the Picard Series. A lot of them. Many of them don't have CBS All Access, but I think they might get it to watch this... and I already have a plan in mind.

When they start watching the Picard Series, if they like it, I'm going to use that to work DSC into the conversation. "Hey, maybe you want to give Discovery a look too! It's pretty good." In today's binge culture, they'd be able to watch all of it pretty quickly if they can set aside a slow day. Some of them have kids, so it's not always easy. It might be a few episodes a night for them, like with everything else. But we'll see. I'll convert at least some people who'll watch the Picard Series to Discovery.

QMx (Quantum Mechanix) are making Terran Empire and Enterprise badges!

They have previews up on their site, can't buy them yet.

Interestingly, they're selling the Enterprise ones in pairs, full size Magnetic + smaller Pin, usually they sell them individually. The Mirror badge only has a sized magnetic.

It looks like Season 2 is just episodic enough that you could fit "Runaway" anywhere in the season.

Before I was wondering if the narrative would be too tight to allow for any room for it to take place but the way the season is set up so far makes it work.

I don't know, Tilly seemed a lot calmer in Runaway rather than her extra hyperactive self that she has been of late, which tells me she wasn't being influenced by the spore.

It's out of her system now. Figuratively and literally. So I think, I'm guessing, you could fit it anywhere in-between episodes somewhere over the course of the next 10.
