Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

I've noticed that people who like this show are more polite then the ones who dislike it.

I don't mean here on TrekBBS, most people here are nice about it. But elsewhere on the internet.

I don't know? I don't talk about Trek often on the internet outside of here.

It's pretty standard "ruined Trek" arguments. It's Abrams universe debates all over again.

Out of morbid curiosity I sometimes go to comments sections of Trek articles on nerdy news sites. It's pretty terrible, I prefer the BBS.

Kurtzman! *kopfschüttel*

Duff und Kurtzman are on the roof of a skyscraper, Duff lifts Kurtzman up, holds him over the roof edge and doesn't lift up Kurtzman anymore...

One can still malisciously dream.

Alternatively one can hope that the authors rip a lot out or that Kurtzman doesn't messes up too much.

Kurtzman! *shakes had*

Kelvin and Disco at the same time creates an interesting new wrinkle. TNG/DS9 and DS9/VOY were Sibling Rivalry. Kelvin/Disco is more like Cousin Rivalry: parallel updatings of the TOS Era, both wanting to bring Star Trek into the 21st Century except in different mediums with different approaches.

So TOS/TNG is a parent/child rivalry and show/novels is a owner/pet relation?

As an only child I don't work at all with this metaphor*

* Full disclosure, Jinn doesn't have any siblings.

TNG is the Alex Keaton to TOS's Steven Keaton. To take the Parent vs. Child Analogy further into a '60s vs. '80s, Hippie vs. Yuppie Analogy. Unfortunately, the Family Ties analogy isn't perfect. I can see VOY as Jennifer and ENT as Andy... but DS9 definitely isn't Mallory.

But then there's The Brady Bunch: with TNG as Marsha or Greg, DS9 as Jan or Peter, and VOY as Cindy or Bobby. ENT would be Cousin Oliver.

On another note: I can live with people not liking DSC, tying back to the people who don't like the show. It's a Trek board, not everyone's going to like all six shows. I don't like all six either. So, I understand that.

The thing that gets me, the thing that really gets me are people screaming about "SJWs!!!" It really makes me hold my tongue. A lot.

That crowd in particular is one of a few reasons I'd like to see the show be wildly successful for a long time.

Just to spite that crowd.

And because DSC is cool.

With Discovery and Last Jedi you get the sense with people who REALLY hate it that hearing anyone say they like it is such a threat to their world view that it causes them visceral pain.
