Wasn't she a captain in the Mirror Universe?

Do you think she’ll make captain before Kirk?
Discovery is a kitbash set in the novelverse!
all through disco is bits and pieces of TOS, TMP, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, and JJR combined with Diane Duane, Diane Carey, Vonda Macintyre, Peter David and even nods to D.C. Fontana her own self.
spotted exaples
little Spock's "face your fears" drawing is of the Silicon-based life form that shares Vulcan with the Vulcan's that Diane Duane wrote into the Rihannsu quadrology and "Spock's World"
Pike having a female chief Engineer
Disco's alert graphics are the early TMP ones dyed yellow
the character interactions are pure Peter David
the non rubber-forehead species like Saru are pure Diane Duane.
the plotlines are ALSO pure Peter David with touches of Vonda Macintyre
etc.
this is WHY this show throws most modern Trekkies and quite a few older Trekkies off. it's bits and pieces of the comic and novel authors combined with screen canon from both the little screen and the silver screen. Trek has back catalogs of writing material going back to the trope-making conventions of the 70's. and I bet most of you modern people have never sat down and read an old trek novelization!
the James Blish writeups of TOS eps and the "star trek logs" novelizations of the TAS eps by a high-end sci-fi author are worth it.
I saw an odd description of DSC today

And even if it is accurate, why would that be a bad thing to be inspired by elements of some of the older Trek novels in making an updated pre-TOS series?
Plus, the sheer quantity of Star Trek written material in the last 50 plus years, leaves little room for the current Producers to expound upon, without occasionally touching previously explored ideas.Especially since the 24th Century had 21 seasons between TNG, DS9, and VOY, while the 23rd Century only had three with TOS. There's a lot that wasn't known or seen about the 23rd Century, so a lot of assumptions crept in. But there were also novels, comics, and other media to fill in the gaps and elaborate on the time period. If you don't draw from novels, or whatever else you can, the 23rd Century would stay barren compared to the 24th.
And with so many great concepts thought up in the 50 years since TOS was cancelled, it would be a shame not to see at least some of it incorporated into TV and canon.
I'll say this much: This season I don't feel like I'm in a constant state of warfare defending Discovery against detractors. This time one year ago it was constant. I was on hard defense against relentless offense. Right now some are still holding the line, but this isn't so bad.

Maybe pike had a female chief in one of the novels? How does having a female chief engineer count as evidence of DSC being kitbashed?
Is it somehow impossible for a woman to be an Engineer unless she's been 'inspired by Torres'?
I'm really hoping that the inclusion of Mirror Georgeau, Tyler, and L'Rell are integral and meaningful to the overall arc.
I've noticed on some shows that the producers / show runners get too personally fond of actors (they become "part of the family"), and try to shoehorn them back into the narrative even after their story has really concluded and/or there's no organic reason for their return. I love Latif, Chiefo and (obviously) Yeoh...but I really sincerely hope there's a story connection here, and that they didn't write them in so it can be a bit of a "family reunion."
With only 14 episodes, and a seemingly complex and engaging arc this season, I don't want to waste an episode on "meanwhile, back on Kronos...."
