Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

I don't know anything about the Orville. I might watch it some day. I don't want it to go off the air, because people seem to like it. but I do wish it wouldn't keep infecting every Star Trek conversation like a malignant tumor.

Funny but true.

I guess the recent Hollywood Reporter TREK article...
... kinda-sorta re-confirms that there is a Georgieu Trek show in the works...

"...A Discovery spinoff starring Michelle Yeoh and younger-skewing Starfleet Academy from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (The O.C.) are among other projects in the works."

Also...
No "Kirk" appearance planned at this time for DISCOVERY...

"...As Discovery inches closer to its Jan. 17 season-two return, the series is also moving closer to its original mythology with the casting of Ethan Peck as Spock. Discovery still has a 10-year gap to fill in before Captain Kirk's arrival on the Enterprise, and there are no current plans for Discovery to introduce the iconic character originally played by William Shatner.

"There's a 10-year gap between where we are in Discovery and Kirk's arrival on the Enterprise. There would [have to] be a major time jump if we were going to do something like that. What Kirk was doing at this particular time is another question, but we don’t have any immediate plans [for the character]," Kurtzman said. "I have not spoken to Shatner about it."

I must say, my interest in the cartoon comedy show is pretty low, but my interest in Georgiou and SF Academy shows is even lower. Glad they're doing that other cartoon for kids, though. I might like it if it's like TAS.

Hope the Picard show delivers.

Given that the I find Mirror Universe stories and season-spanning war arcs only slightly more appealing than Borg stories (and I'm no fan of the Borg), I'm surprised that my reaction to DSC has been as favorable as it's been. (I've been too busy, the past few days, to break out my DVDs and make it out of the MU.)

If I had to rank my level of interest in projects, both rumored and confirmed, it would be:

1. Continuing the Discovery voyages

2. Nicholas Meyer Khan mini-series
3. Picard series

4. Animated kids series (my boys are 4 and 7, so more excited about sharing with them than anything)

5. Starfleet Academy

6. Section 31 / Emeperor Georgeau (and I LOVE Michelle Yeoh, but this doesn't excite me yet)

7. Animated Lower Decks series

8. Khan miniseries

They should do a Star Trek story that's an allegory for rabid canon-obsessed fans not being able to cope with "their" Star Trek being changed into something different. Kind of like how that was the entire arc of Nero's character in 2009.

I have a question: have we been told who the Main Cast members are for Season 2? I know that Sonequa, Doug, Anthony, Mary, and Shazad are back, obviously, but do we know who else, if anyone, is joining them?

^ Because Discovery isn't set up like any of the other series, and position and rank aboard the titular ship don't matter when it comes to determining Series Regular status versus Recurring or guest status, so unless he was specifically announced as being a Series Regular, there's no reason to just assume that he is.

I think Mount is classified as being in "the main cast" for this season. That doesn't necessarily mean he will be in the main cast in any subsequent seasons, but nor does (potentially) having it be the plan for him to NOT return next season make him any less part of the main cast this season.
