News Gene Hackman (1930-2025)

Aragorn

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Gene Hackman, his wife and their dog were found dead at their home but police say there is no immediate indication of foul play. I assume this is leading toward carbon monoxide poisoning.

Very sad news. He probably has a legitimate claim to being regarded as the finest actor of his generation, if not all time, if it’s possible to give anyone that title. It was cinema’s loss that he retired so (relatively) young but he seemed to have been enjoying his life in retirement and who could begrudge him that?

I don't know if I dare to comment on this by agreeing with the OP that due to the info available, something like carbon monoxide poisoning looks to be the most likely culprit.

I wonder if I will receive all sorts of flak here for voicing my opinion on what the most probable scenario is as I did with the girl from Buffy yesterday. Hmmm....

RIP - He was quoted as wanting to be remembered as a "decent actor." ""As someone who tried to portray what was given to them in an honest fashion. I don’t know, beyond that." - Gene Hackman

You did that sir, and so much more. RIP.

R.I.P. Lex Luthor :(

First Michelle Trachtenberg. Now, Gene Hackman.

Let's deal in facts as they come out.

The cause of death is still under investigation.

I imagine that that won't happen if you don't once again try to turn a thread about mourning and loss into a thread about Moonglum.

And, for the record and in reality, your opinion about what happened with Michelle Trachtenberg was nowhere even in the same solar system as being the "most probable scenario".

Rest in peace, Gene. You were one of my all-time favorites. There have been a lot of Lex Luthors, but you were the only one who claimed ownership.

I'd say he's certainly in the top five, along with one of his living co-stars.

I wonder if I might get negativity for thinking of a canine as a person....or any loyal pet in general. Because the emphasis should stay on three specific people, not you or I. Once the news broke this morning I remembered how Alicia Witt's parents were also found together.....though the cause of their deaths was not carbon monoxide.

More in-depth Hackman comments to come.
