I just saw this rather shocking news. Gary Shandling died today in LA, but cause of death has not been released. As far as anyone knows, he was not suffering from any known illness.

Variety reports:
Comedian, actor, writer and producer Garry Shandling, known for “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show” and “The Larry Sanders Show,” has died, according to multiple reports.

He died at an L.A. hospital on Thursday, according to TMZ, which first broke the news. A cause of death has not been released.

Such sad news. I loved "Gary Shandling's Show;" it was a breath of fresh air when it first came on--back when Showtime was still a novelty.

It's rather depressing, when you realize all the people you grew up watching, admiring, laughing with, etc are dropping like flies. But Gary was only 66; I wonder if he was in an accident or something?

I was surprised to read this news a few minutes ago. I didn't have cable when It's Garry Shandling's Show was on, but I loved every minute of The Larry Sanders show. Such a funny and creative guy, he will be missed. RIP Mr. Sanders.

The Larry Sanders Show, for me at least, was one of the funniest shows ever put on television and was truly groundbreaking for its time.

RIP.

RIP, Garry Shandling. I felt bad when I heard this one. I still remember his old show on Fox back in the 80s. He was also the best thing in Iron Man 2.

My god, what a shock. The guy was a genius, he sold a script to Sanford and Son before he even had an agent. As a teen I used to await his appearances and guest-hosting on The Tonight Show. Then the truly original It's Garry Shandling's Show and the brilliant pinnacle of The Larry Sanders Show. He will have a prominent place in the history of television.

I have a distinct memory from a very early age (8 or 9) sitting up at 2am on a weekend, having crept downstairs, watching The Garry Shandling Show on one of the four channels, not having a clue what was going on (WHY IS HE TALKING TO THE CAMERA?!?) but loving it dearly and raving about it in school the next week, even singing the theme tune as it regularly got stuck in my head.

You can imagine the blank looks I got from the other 12 year old English boys and girls.

I had the exact same blank response from my teenage friends when it came to the Larry Sanders Show - especially when I tried to explain the in-jokes in The X-Files' Hollywood AD where Garry played himself AND Fox Mulder.

An amazing talent and, along with Robin Williams, probably the biggest loss to comedy in recent memory.

Hugo - I once made love for an hour and fifteen minutes, but it was the night the clocks are set ahead.

Innovative and influential in many areas of comedy and broadcast.

He will be making them laugh, wherever he has gone...

R. I. P., Mr. Shandling...and, Mr. Sanders.

I've thought Garry hasn't looked as well in recent appearances. Too bad, this guy's been with me through standup, the Garry Shandling show and the Larry Sanders show, and more.

Years ago I caught one of his stand up shows on TV late one night. I had never seem him before, but he was hilarious. Stayed up to watch the whole thing.
Thank you and RIP.

I loved 'The Larry Sanders Show' it was one of the first adult-oriented comedy shows I watched, and with my parents knowing about it (unlike when I used to sneak peaks at the other HBO comedy show of the time: 'Dream on').

He will be truly missed.

Such a shame, he almost always made me laugh when I watched his shows as a kid, and his stand up as a teen. And I loved his appearance in Iron Man 2.

Really sad. Loved his stand up. The Larry Sanders Show was just incredible. Maybe it was a heart attack. I though the had the most memorable "Hail Hydra" (in his cameo), in Winter Soldier. RIP.

I really loved him in Hollywood AD. RIP Mr. Shandling, thanks for the laughs and the memories.
