Well, technically it's Lord Garth, not Emperor Garth, but as long as we're discussing his new clothes, we should probably consider the obvious.
You know, he has another pair of boots just like it at home...
It is obvious to the most simpleminded that the pair at home are of an inferior breed. They are gold on the right side.
Except that when Garth gets knocked out, he involuntarily changes back into his "real" form, and we see him wearing that outfit then. Seems unlikely that while unconscious, his face would automatically change back but not the illusion of his clothes.
