GameStop's new hassle for trading in games.

I do not trade in my games but I have several friends that do.

Today 2 of my friends went to trade in games and Gamestop asked for I.D. and finger printed them.
Yes you read it right, THEY FINGER PRINTED THEM!

Unreal.

They went on their lunch hour and almost didn't make it back in time, they said the whole process took them 1/2 hour to trade in three games each.

Knowing both of them well I have no reason to doubt them.

Anyone else had this treatment?

I'd heard of this recently too. A lot of companies are going this route especially if you return merchandise.

Wow, I'm sure there's a good reason, but I can't think of it off the top of my head

Fingerprinting...to trade in a game? :wtf:

What, is GameStop worried about Al Qaeda terrorists trading in Madden 09 or something?

I think that it is because certain states require fingerprints at pawn shops and Gamestop is now considered in some sense a pawn shop.

I think Gamestop just lost my trade business. I keep the Real Me as far off the grid as possible-screw them!

I quit trading with them sometime ago because they absolutely ass rape you on the trade in value. Ebay is a bit of a hassle and their fees have gotten outrageous, BUT I still am money ahead to sell on Ebay.

Amazon has some sort of trade in for used games but I'm not really sure how it works.

Finger printing to exchange games, where does it go from there, full body cavity search when you want to trade in your old console.

From what I saw, their trade values are pretty much the same as Gamestop.

A month or so ago I took advantage of a "buy 2 get 1 free" used game sale at Gamestop and thought I was getting a good deal. Until I checked on Ebay and realized I could have gotten the 3 same games for less. Granted it's a bit riskier (and I was recently taken on a bogus used DS game), but I still come out money ahead in the long run. Gamestop, and Amazon too I guess, are just not very economical for used games IMHO. And now add this fingerprint BS, and there's NO reason to trade there.

Um, they've been doing that for a few years.

I stopped trading in at GameStop/EB once they stopped accepting PC trades.

GameStop is little more than a video game pawnshop anymore that also happens to occasionally sell new merchandise as well. It's made a name and living off reselling used games and people seemingly don't care it's more often a ripoff to sell to them than via another source.

Hm, my roommate traded some games in recently and was not fingerprinted. It must vary by area.

But yeah, the only games I ever buy from Gamestop are "new" PC games on the budget rack, and used DS games if the price is right. Personally, though, I'd rather buy my PC games from Classic PC Gamer.

It's probably because crackheads are always stealing games from Walmarts and then running them over to Gamestop for cash.

How do you think Gamestop has a used version of a game for 5 bucks less than MSRP on the release date?
