Games you're looking forward to?

Rii

Rear Admiral
With the recent announcement of Bioshock Infinite the time seems auspicious for another of these threads.

For my part I'm dividing my list into two categories: games I'm already looking forward to and in need of no further convincing as to the merits thereof, and games whose development I'm following with some interest.

The former:

Diablo III (PC)
Civilization V (PC)
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (PC)
Bioshock Infinite (PC/X360/PS3)
Portal 2 (PC/X360/PC)
Fate of the World (PC)

The latter:

Guild Wars 2 (PC)
XCOM (PC/X360/PS3)
Journey (PSN)
Carrier Command: Gaea Mission (PC)
Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)
Tropico 4 (PC)

And to stretch the term 'game' beyond any burden it can be expected to bear: the Nintendo 3DS.

Potentially interesting titles about which very little is currently known (Mechwarrior, Thief 4, etc.) are excluded from the above lists.

Star Wars: The Old Republic
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Star Wars: The Old Republic

and
Star Wars: The Old Republic

In no particular order:

  • SW:TOR (Pronounced 'SWOTOR' btw.)
  • Halo: Reach
  • World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution
  • Diablo III
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Gran Turismo 5

I was vaguely interested in The Old Republic before they actually started demonstrating the game, i.e. Jedi healbots.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

I'm not sure why I'm not excited about this. I think part of it is that cyberpunk is just not where my head is at right now.

Well, let's just say I would have been very surprised if Bioware would have deviated from the holy trinity of class archetypes ;)

Sequels to my favorite games... Halo Reach... Mass Effect 3... Bioshock Infinite... Crackdown 2 (oh wait that one came out already!)... Star Wars Battlefront 3 if they ever make it... Assassins Creed 3 (one that continues the real story not the Enzio spin-off title).

Mass Effect 3
Dues Ex: Human Revolution
Crysis 2
WH40K: Sphess Mahreen

Sort of interested in Front Mission Evolved, XCom, Xenonauts (the old school XCom clone), and that's about it. Don't have enough time or money to get into too many things.

There's only four I'm truly looking forward to:

Halo: Reach
Batman: Arkham City
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Star Wars: Force Unleashed 2

In that order.

Civilization 5
Dead Rising 2
Fallout: New Vegas
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
Batman: Arkham City
Diablo 3
Dragon Age 2
Dead Space 2
Starcraft: Heart of the Swarm/Legacy of the Void
Portal 2
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Mass Effect 3
Bioshock Infinite

That's all I can think of for now, there's others I'm sure are on the way but haven't officially announced.

Oh! Also, Half-Life 2: Episode 3...... Wishful thinking?

The ones I'm really looking forward to are:-
Mass Effect 3
Dragon Age 2

I'll probably get the new Medal of Honor game too. Other than that, I haven't really kept up with what's new.

No need convincing:

Mass Effect 2/3 (price watching with 2 at the moment) (PC)
Dragon Age 2 (PC)
WH 40K: Space Marines (PS3, could get it on PC but it looks like it would be more fun on a console)
Sword of the Stars 2 (PC)

Need convincing:
SW: The Old Republic (PC, not sold on MMOs)
WH 40K: Dark Millennium (PC, nod sold on MMOs)
HAWX 2 (PS3, enjoyed the first)

The biggies are

Deus Ex Human Revolution
Mass Effect 3
Dragon Age 2

Other ones that look interesting are

Diablo 3
Dead Space 2
Halo Reach

^ Ah, I forgot Dragon Age 2 on my list. Basically, I'm looking forward to everything Bioware is going to put out - they always deliver ;)

Oh I forgot about Dead Space 2! That would be the bottom of my list though. I liked the first one but it was too hard/scary :p

Civ5 is the most anticipated game, but since I know it's coming to Steam, there's a part of me that wants to wait for the inevitable half off sale.

Mass Effect 3
Batman: Arkham City
Dragon Age 2
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Halo: Reach
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

But mostly ME3.

I'm not part of the BioWare faithful and I actively dislike TOR's aesthetic, which is proof that 'stylised' doesn't necessarily mean 'interesting to look at', so the innovation that the game promised to bring to the genre was pretty much all that had me going. And the more that's been revealed about it, the less impressive it's become in that respect, not only because established games like WoW, WAR and LotRO continue to make improvements to their own narrative systems, but also because there are other MMOs in development (such as Guild Wars 2) which are departing more radically from the traditional model. And so TOR is left with lightsabres and 72 hours of voice acting.

Each to their own, of course.

Arkham City is the only game I'm really looking forward to. I don't play video games often, but Arkham Asylum was fucking awesome, so I can't wait for the sequel.

Civ5 is the most anticipated game, but since I know it's coming to Steam, there's a part of me that wants to wait for the inevitable half off sale.

I recently sold my Steam account in a fit of pique re: the degree to which the system compromises my ability to re-sell games, so I'm all kinds of pissed about Take 2 tying the game to the platform unnecessarily. Of course, that's precisely why they're doing it, and why the new Battle.net functions as it does. Fuckers.

Note to publishers: the more you tighten you grip, the more systems will slip through your fingers ... to bittorrent.
