Game UK won't be selling Mass Effect 3

I really should get around to playing the first two some time.

Don't bother, they're shit. I've only played something like 300 hours between them. Not worth the money.

Hardly worth it then for a measly 300 hours. Seriously, I remember when games used to have longevity, unlike today's offerings that only cater to the ADD crowd. Bloody lazy devs.

To be serious for a moment, depending on how you play them you can complete them in about 20 hours I think, if you go through them and do side quests and talk to your crew and stuff the first one is about a 48 hour game, the second one with DLCs I've been playing for nearly 60 hours this play through, but with male and female sheps, renegade and paragon and different character types and diverging stories you can play through multiple times. I've done 2 play throughs of each to rack that up.

According to Steam I've spent 504 hours on Mass Effect 1 and 726 hours on Mass Effect 2...I really need to get a life.

In my defence though, that's from around a dozen complete playthroughs, including things like insanity runs and three attempts (two of which sunceeded) to get upto lv60 on ME1. Plus I've spent a good chunck of time mucking about with the character creator trying to reverse engineer my original Shepards and get the face codes. Good thing I did that as from what I gather importing ME1 faces into ME3 doesn't work very well. As you might have guessed, I don't buy many games a year and when I do, I like to get my moneys worth. ;p

In other news, my pre-order DLC code came late last night and I just redeemed it. Not counting the CE goodies that means I now have two extra sets of armour, three assault rifles and a sniper rifle...I wonder if I'll ever get any use out of them.

Just waiting on the posty now...*glares at the letter box*

I feel for the people losing their jobs, I feel bad that a large gaming company is going, but the sentiment as far as GAME is concerned is "Please let the door hit you on the arse on your way out."

Went in town on Saturday and one of the shops was already gone. While the other one and the Gamestation were still touting for Mass Effect 3 trade-ins.

Yeah, ShopTo.net put a blog/status on Facebook earlier asking if anyone knew of stores that had shut down already, and a fair few people have commented on it reported Game and Gamestation stores disappearing over the last week.

Might be an idea to go and spend whatever I have saved up on my loyalty card before it's too late.

Both the Game stores in Manchester centre have gone, but the Gamestation there is still open. Not been to Oldham or Middleton today so I don't know about the ones there.

Just read the bit about credit/loyalty points too. Bastards.

Guess not every branch got the memo. Although even that DS article says they only expect half the stores to close. I'm guessing the stores that are still open are the ones that are still making a decent bit of cash every week. Makes sense. The Gamestation in Manchester is always rammed whenever I go in, where as the Game stores have been dead for a while.

It's the people who are going to lose their jobs that I feel for. Like the country needs more unemployed people at the moment.

ETA: 277 out of the 609 stores have closed today, putting 2,104 people (40% of Game UK's workforce) out of work.

And here's a list of the closed stores so far...

Same here. I won't miss the actually shop, it was a shite business, but hundreds if not thousands of jobs lost is something to be sorry about.

Until last year I largely ignored GAME because they overcharged but they had gotten better recently. I was always pissed they brought GameStation because it ruined any chance of competition on the high street though I regulary use Shop To anyway these days.

Pity about the jobs though we already have 2.6 million unemployed, this won't help matters.
