Ok, that was interesting. We really are going full on Mad Queen Dany. Especially with the way that ended. Wow.
Jaime has the single most interesting scene in the episode. After finally giving in and embracing his relationship with Brienne, he abandons her to ride south. That speech, when she calls him a good man. Heartbreaking. But is he trying to save Cersei, or has he decided that dealing with her must be his responsibility? To truly become a good man, he must confront her. (Or at least, Luke must confront Vader. Wait, wrong franchise.) I'm really curious which direction they'll go here. Will Jaime be wrapped around his sister's finger again, or will he finally be on the path to truly being free of her? It felt like the writers were giving us a lot to chew on there. Either way I can't imagine he'll live through the end of the series now.
Rhaegal takes his last flight, leaving only a single dragon. (Insert bad Highlander reference of your choice.) In keeping with the animal based metaphor that the series has adaped from the books, Dany has been isolated. She stands alone. Unsupported, and soon unrestrained. What's the over/under on how long into the next episode before she orders somebody to "Burn them all!"? This is not going to end well for anybody.
Least of all Jon Snow. On the plus side, I think Ghost being sent north of the Wall may actually increase the chances that Jon lives to see the end credits of the final episode. I think he may give it all up, and go north of the Wall to live in seclusion with the Free Folk. Away from kings and lords and madness and death. Of course, he probably has to both survive Dany's now inevitable wrath (their collision course seems inescapable) and more than likely be the one who ends her. Tragedy, thy name is Snow.
Ok, so with two to go, it's now time for ending predictions. I'm probably hopelessly wrong here, but why not?
1) Jon lives. Dany doesn't. He will then turn down the throne and disappear, ending the series with Tormund and Ghost north of the Wall. Or he'll just die, but I think the Ghost reunion is now more likely. That may just be foolish hope talking.
2) Jaime will have to at least try and kill Cersei. Why will be the thing. 50/50 on whether Euron gets in the way and they kill each other.
3) CleganeBowl. Sandor puts up a good fight with his brother only to lose, but lives long enough to see Arya kill (a probably wounded and weakened) Gregor. The Mountain is the biggest and strongest killer in the series, I don't think they'll be able to resist letting tiny Arya end him. And unless she's also wearing Jaime's face I don't see her getting to cross any other names off her list. In contrast to her final lines with Clegane in this episode, she'll stay with Sandor so he doesn't die alone.
4) The newly legitimized Gendry Baratheon winds up on the Iron Throne, king of the Andals and the whatever, etc, etc. Part of me hopes Arya, her list fulfilled, goes back to him. The irony of her ending up Queen, when it had been Sansa's dream for so long, would be sweet. But I suspect that's more wishful thinking on my part.
5) Varys is done for. Killed by his own queen for treason. (Honestly, after this week I think this is a foregone conclusion.)
6) Dany will turn on Tyrion. 60/40 that it's even after he stands with her and doesn't help Varys. I still have no idea if he'll live to the end or not. I'm leaning towards no. I think if he lives he may be the one who actually kills Dany, as opposed to Jon. But if he dies I suspect it's almost certainly at Dany's hand. Well, Drogon's breath, but you know what I mean.
8) Sansa. I straight up have no idea.
Feel free to mock incessantly when I turn out to be wrong!
