Spoilers Game of Thrones: The Final Season

Cersei's plan worked too. If she had sent her army north they wouldn't have made any difference and probably would be dead now. Now she has a much bigger army than her opponents. But the dragons are still a problem. She is probably counting on Qyburn to come up with something.

Will Bronn join the good guys now? he did say he is not going to stay around when the dragons come.

I was right about Qyburn improving the dragon killer weapon and Bronn staying away from dragons.

Apparently David and Dan don't care if millions upon millions of people hate them and start sending them death threats because they've tripled down on a storyline that is only going to piss people off, and I now feel foolish for believing that they understood their audience and actually cared to avoid the damage to their own personal reputations.

It's clear now, though, that they don't and are hellbent on deliberately antagonizing their audience, and it causes me to lose what respect I had for them as storytellers.

There is absolutely no reason for there to be a simmering and stewing conflict brewing between Danaerys and Jon other than petty melodrama, and yet that's where we are and are clearly going to stay despite all common sense saying that this storyline shouldn't exist.

I was greatly let down by the final episode of Westworld Season 2, and now Game of Thrones is heading in that same direction and it honestly robs the series of its 'enjoyment factor'.

What you say is correct, which is why I can only believe that "Mad Queen Dany" was always GRRM's intent to be the endgame of the series. D&D are probably doing it in a more hamfisted way than he would have done, but still, they aren't going to invent something like this out of thin air.

All this stuff has been foreshadowed for years. There isn't a single thing playing out that hasn't been talked about as nauseam. The show has taken a dip in quality since season 4 overall, but Reddit and Twitter seem to think it's the worst show ever now.

Yup, good call on both counts.

I enjoyed the exchange between him, Tyrion, and Jaime. I wondered if he would simply turncoat against Cersei, but I was relieved to see he stayed to his true colors: It's all about that gold. Plus, he raised a good point about mercenaries (I know that's not exactly what he said, but I'm blanking on the term right now) being the ones who started the major houses. I imagine he'll return in the finale to make good on his claim, depending on who wins and who is still alive. It would be tragically ironic if Tyrion died from a crossbow wound.

Political fantasy? Try Fletcher Pratt's The Blue Star. Or even The Well of the Unicorn. Judging from the TV series, both are vastly superior to Martin. I suppose you may try to find politics in Moorcock's Gloriana (a fantasy Elizabeth I) but good luck, I found it unreadable.

Again, re magic in LOTR, I say people doing magic things to change the plot is what counts. The kind of magic like the Saruman/Gandalf duel is what we're talking about. That scene was added to the movie LOTR precisely to beef up the minimal magic from the books in my opinion.

As to tonight's episode?

War is the greatest enemy of the common people, and Varys has been a prime mover in endless war. So much for his alleged loyalty to the realm. And he is on to his next king!

The next greatest enemy of the peasants is their local lord taxing them. Not an issue for this show, never has been and insofar as Daenerys does have a problem with it, they hate Daenerys.

And speaking of wanting war, isn’t Sansa just the greatest?

Jon’s susceptibility to Sansa’s manipulations shows he is not fit to be king. Also, no, not wanting to change things doesn’t make you a fit ruler. Rather the opposite I think. Tyrion really isn’t the smartest man in the world if he can’t see how Sansa is manipulating him for another civil war.

Apparently Gendry will restore the house of Baratheon to the Iron Throne.

Qyburn’s gadgets are absurd, FX cobbled up to give producer favorite a fighting chance. Also absurd is Euron being too stupid to realize Cersei’s baby wasn’t his if Tyrion knew about it.

The idea that Cersei will get away with starving people inside the Red Keep is insane. She'll massacre them herself to keep them from eating her out of house and home. That'll be more difficult because she's already let them inside the gates. It's the same High Sparrow mistake again.

The whole idea that a siege will cause the people to rise up and overthrow Cersei is both stupid and vile. It's stupid because it is a staple of US foreign policy and it never works. It's vile because siege tactics are the ones that cause the greatest suffering to the common people. This is of course what recommends to a Tyrion.

Aerys was so hated because he killed nobles, not commoners. Never forget that, even if the show is horrified at the spilling of blue blood. Also, if you must have a king, the best type would be one who is chosen by some method other than conquest, or simple heredity. Renly's claim was really acclamation by the nobles, which isn't much. But Magna Carta wasn't a much better start either.

PS On a purely personal fanservice note, I was terribly disappointed that Tyrion didn't die, as the ghost of Shae looks on, smiling. I suppose Varys has explained that he is essential to his plans to murder Daenerys. And, if Qyburn were really smart he'd have been looking for Jon Snow's mother the whole time, and found out. Varys may have spread the word to her already, though.

GRRM can get away with going that route, but David and Dan should be cognizant of the fact that they risk putting Game of Thrones in the same category, in the minds of general television audiences, as series like LOST and How I Met Your Mother - series that started out really good but ended in the worst possible way - and they apparently don't care if that happens.

Cersei stole all the food from the Reach.

She's a horrible shit to commoners anyway.

A siege or invasion, either will fuck things up but not as much as leaving her on the throne.

That little scene where Jon gets hit in the chest and rubs it, plus talk of the Lord of Light not caring after the Night King and his forces are defeated seems to be saying that Jon is on limited time and the resurrection magic is fading.

or is it the opposite and the Lord of Light has gifted him a normal life and not just a resurrected body.

So you expect them to scrap the planned ending of the entire arc that GRRM handed them simply for the sake of fanservice?

Oh, that's a good observation. I did notice the way Jon rubs his chest at that moment but I wasn't sure what to make of it. I think you might be onto something. Would be interesting if he suddenly collapses dead at a critical moment that relies on some action from him.

Nah, he doesn't care about any fans. That guy expect DigificWriter-Service. If he's wrong, the "fans" have been betrayed. What a crock.

I liked Missandei’s choice of last words “Dracaris”. Basically saying “Kill them all”.
Yup, same here. Looks like Daenerys is going to take her final words to heart.

Yay....? Thanks show.

I think they just didn’t think Yuron had a weapon capable of killing a dragon.
Why not? Daenerys and Tyrion saw that Cersei's forces did firsthand last season.

Yup. Plus you know... "Oh hey I wonder what all those Ironborn ships are doing especially that really big one? Oh well, just fly on like nothing's different."

As angry and frustrated as I am with where the end of the series is clearly headed, I find myself bristling at the accusations of racism I've been seeing leveled elsewhere against the episode for the brutal and unforgiving fashion in which Missandei was killed and for Jaime's decision to return to Cersei after having seemingly turned over a new leaf by being vulnerable enough with Brienne to earn enough trust from her that she chose to have her first intimate experience with him.

Neither of those things, while heartbreaking, are inconsistent with previous seasons in either shocking content or character writing.

Literally nothing is inconsistent with any other seasons.
