Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight ordered to HBO series

I've quickly realized what I love the most about this show.

Yes, the overall tune is wonderfully fun and, of course, the rapport between Dunk and Egg is sweet and endearing.

But what I love the most about the show is there isn't any war. There isn't even a  hint* of war or scheming or backstabbing. Instead, it's about one man's journey to find his place in the world as a knight, however clumsily he gets there.

I just find it so damn refreshing to see the world of Westeros and its eccentric characters and rich cultural dynamics without any sense of impending doom.

I say that without any knowledge of where this story goes or the following novellas. I certainly hope it remains this joyful way, at least for this season.

This show is in stark contrast of House of the Dragon which jumped right into the fighting (even if the war didn't actually start until later). Nor is this show full of assholes like House. I like more characters in the first two episodes (Dunk, Egg, Ser Lyonel, Tanselle, and Prince Baelor) than I do from two seasons of House.

*Okay, we get a tiny bit of that with the Targaryen squabbling but that felt like the exception and not a prelude.

I certainly didn't! Thank you for pointing that out.
Stark contrast, eh?

I am not sure why they had to include a certain ‘feature’ in the opening scene of the second episode but I enjoyed this episode even more than the first episode. Lyonel is even better in the show than in the books.

I kind of wish they stopped that. Yes, the GoT shows are known for not holding back and being gratuitious but at some point it's just being done to be shocking without any kind of story need or to establish a certain vibe ( kind of what soured me on The Boys, same problem).

Apart from these two instances in the first episodes the show is really great but holding off on that would improve it.

The jousting was very exciting to see but also quite brutal.
Considering how brutal it was in real life, I found that realism refreshing.

...although then I was taken out of that moment when one of the jousters pulled himself back onto his speeding horse in full armor.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Fantasy!

Lyonel is even better in the show than in the books.
Glad to read it. He's such a riot! I look forward to seeing more of him.

Pun not intended!

I do agree it is gratuitious, although I'm almost acclimated to the full frontal nudity thanks to both of the 28 Years Later films. I'm not saying the moment wasn't distracting but I was less bothered by it than the loogy hocking.
