Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight ordered to HBO series

I just watched the first episode and I really enjoyed a 9/10. I thought the characters of Dunk and Egg were great and enjoyed the scenes with Lyonel Baratheon. I have read the novellas so I knew what to expect. My son, who has not read the books, enjoyed it as well.

Know nothing about Dunk and Egg other than they exist and take place within the GoT world, so i was going in 99% blank.

Enjoyed it a lot, the actor playing Duncan is adorable in his awkwardness and timidness as he tries to navigate society on his own as a fish out of water. I'll be definitely watching this, despite it literally taking a shit on GoT

wasn’t there a connection to Aemon?

Subbed to NowTV for this, unsubbed from NowTV after the premiere. It just wasnt what I wanted from it

Dunk and Egg was never a story that appealed enough to me to make me read them so I was surprised how much I liked this. Just a fun easy watching more old school medieval show.

First episode was very good. Everyone seems to have been perfectly cast and it establishes that the stakes are "can this guy who sleeps in a hedge win a tournament?" really well. The gag where it looked like the Game Of Thrones theme was about to start playing (for a THIRD SHOW) but then it cut to Dunc shitting behind a tree was a great way to differentiate it from what has come before before.

Finally got a chance to watch the first episode and I enjoyed it pretty well. I haven't read the novellas but the premise has always intrigued me (although I don't give one toss who Egg really is). Aside from the unnecessary gross bits (mostly that one guy hocking loogies), the series is off to a fun start. Dunk and Egg already have a fun rapport and I look forward to watching that relationship grow. I love Ser Lyonel's wild antics so hopefully we'll see plenty more of him.

That was one of my favorite parts of the whole episode!

I've quickly realized what I love the most about this show.

Yes, the overall tune is wonderfully fun and, of course, the rapport between Dunk and Egg is sweet and endearing.

But what I love the most about the show is there isn't any war. There isn't even a  hint* of war or scheming or backstabbing. Instead, it's about one man's journey to find his place in the world as a knight, however clumsily he gets there.

I just find it so damn refreshing to see the world of Westeros and its eccentric characters and rich cultural dynamics without any sense of impending doom.

I say that without any knowledge of where this story goes or the following novellas. I certainly hope it remains this joyful way, at least for this season.

This show is in stark contrast of House of the Dragon which jumped right into the fighting (even if the war didn't actually start until later). Nor is this show full of assholes like House. I like more characters in the first two episodes (Dunk, Egg, Ser Lyonel, Tanselle, and Prince Baelor) than I do from two seasons of House.

*Okay, we get a tiny bit of that with the Targaryen squabbling but that felt like the exception and not a prelude.

I wonder how many people realised that he’s the same actor who played Ebony Maw in the Avengers movies?
I certainly didn't! Thank you for pointing that out.

Completely agree and what made me interested in the show at all since GoT dropped the ball hard in its final season and House failed to pick it up at all ( i only watch the Dragon scenes on Youtube, clocked out somewhere mid season 1).

The show is brilliant because of its tight focus and they excelled in the casting, putting a complete unknown (at least for me) up with Peter Claffey and asking him to carry the show as lead and by the gods he carries it.

The second episode was as good as the first, the gross out moment was as gross as the first one  but Duncan's journey continues and he even is successful for once. We all knew he would be or it would have been a short show but still.

One question was also answered in a short scene - yes, he's also not just tall and stong, he can actually fight which will make next week's episode all the more exciting to see him in full action.

The jousting was very exciting to see but also quite brutal.

Can't wait for Duncan to be paired against the asshole Targaryen prince and curbstomp him ( i hope that happens, you can never know in Westeros).

I am not sure why they had to include a certain ‘feature’ in the opening scene of the second episode but I enjoyed this episode even more than the first episode. Lyonel is even better in the show than in the books.
