I was just curious to see what people who have read the A Song of Ice and Fire books have thought of the show compared to those who haven't.
For those who have read the books are there any specific changes they've made that you've liked or not liked.

It's not just what I pictured, but I still love the show. So far it's been a much better adaptation than I was expecting it to be.

I guess I'm relatively new to the books (started off with them early last year if I remember correctly).

Overall, I think the series is doing a fine job of adapting the novel and I am enjoying it:)

Where's the middle ground option? I have not read the books and I like the show, but I'm not sure if I'll stick around. Honestly, I'm only even bothering because there's been such hype around it and I'm waiting for it to get more interesting. We have all these characters and plot threads and history, and..? I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop to bring all the threads together into a cohesive story.

Love the books (probably my favorite book series ever), love the show. As the others have said, it's not 100% perfect, but it's pretty darn good, and should be getting even better now that most of the set-up is out of the way. It always manages to surprise me every week when some little detail I didn't expect making it into the show does in fact appear or get mentioned. :)

My biggest complaint thus far is the music. While the main theme has grown on me (I find myself often listening to it in my head ;)) the rest of it is bland and utterly forgettable. You've spoiled me, Bear McCreary!

The other shoe has already started to drop. :)

The end of the last episode was letting go of the shoe.

Yeah, I kind of got that impression. :p

Just thought I'd let you know you should stick with it. ;)

Never read the books and really enjoying the show so far. Each episode leaves me wanting to see what happens next. Indeed, I'm finding myself engaged in *all* of the various plot threads, which is a rare thing for a story like this. Usually there's one bunch of characters that don't quite hold up as well as the others. Not so here.
I must admit that I was starting to get bored with the exiled white haired siblings and their barbarian horde...that is I was until whiney McArseface got bitch slapped with a bullwhip and his sister cottened on to who really has the power out of the two of them.

The dwarf prince is easily the best character so far and I get the feeling (assuming they don't kill him off) that he's one of the most interesting in the books too.

I probably should ask, but do the books span a fairly long stretch of time? I ask because some of the things they're setting up (especially with Sean Bean's tomboy of a younger daughter) look like they're not meant to fully pay off until *much* later, like a decade or two.

The books that were published so far span about 2-2.5 years.

As a big fan of the books, I'm enjoying it so far, though I think the episode quality has been a little bit uneven. The last in particular was very heavy on exposition, and on a personal note I'm disappointed if that's all they're going to show of the Hand's tournament, since it's one of my favourite scenes in the book. If there's one thing a TV adaption really should do, it's take advantage of the visual set-pieces the book offers. I think the casting is mostly very good indeed - Samwell Tarly was excellent in the most recent episode, I thought, Tyrion is brilliant, and I'm particularly enjoying Littlefinger and Viserys as well. Dany is the weak link for me so far, I'm not keen on some of the changes they've made there, or the actress, for that matter, she's lacking... something for me. Jorah Mormont is really good, though. I'm also quite impressed with what they're doing with Jaime who I thought would be a very difficult character to convey on the screen. Can't wait to see more of the Hound, who's one my favourite characters in the book, and also looking forward to Ser Loras Tyrell making an appearance (one of the reasons I was disappointed the tournament was cut short).

^ Sounds like we'll definitely be getting part 2 of the tournament in the next episode so yeah, the Loras/Gregor/Sandor scene will appear. I also remember seeing in all the making of stuff a scene with Ned and Robert (and his fat belly hanging out) talking in a tent, which I'm pretty sure is during the tournament.

Oh, that's good. I was hoping that might be the case, but as yet we haven't had an episode continue right where the last one left off, they've all had some time lapse in between them.

Read the books, Love the Show, it is as faithful to the original works as any book>movie/TV retelling. Can't wait to see how this all works out on the small screen.
