Well, I think this poster says it all. There's going to be a lot of money spent on the final two episodes this season, with all the Special effects and stuff. I just hope they don't interfere with the great character moments of the season, but then again, these sfx might just enhance those great character moments. I can't wait.

Sometimes I wish every episode was just Tyrion and Varys bandying back and forth. All of their scenes are pure gold.

Good episode. Obviously a "calm before the storm" setup ep, but still quality.

I guess that's it for jaqen h'ghar. Pity, I had spent the entire season looking forward his *final* scene.

Well, the last episode is titled Valar Morghulis, so I think we're still going to get it in some form.

As a matter of fact, I suspect it may be used as the season cliffhanger.

Personally I was more disappointed to lose the weasel soup.

But I still voted "excellent" cos it was.

Speaking of Bronn, am I the only one amazed at how much I'm enjoying a performance by Jerome Flynn? Yes, he of Robson and Jerome fame!

Yeah, I've been saying that to people since last season, when I found out who was playing the part!

^ Though if memory serves, he was supposed to have been good in a tv thing about Tommy Cooper (where he played Tommy). Is it time to forgive him for murdering Unchained Melody?

Re: Game of Thrones 2.8 - "The Prince of Winterfell" - Rate and discus

Been a good season, but feels like the 10-episode limit has rushed a lot this time around. Could use a couple more episodes before the finale, but we're down to our last 2 already...

I liked it. Especially the scene between Stannis and Davos.

Re: Game of Thrones 2.8 - "The Prince of Winterfell" - Rate and discus

I like Stannis because he is so forthright. He seems to be a no shades of grey character.

Going to start the books this weekend.

^He's certainly that, but is that necessarily a good thing?

Enjoy the books!

Nope it is probably not a good thing, but it does make him different from the other schemers on the show.

I would cast Rob and Jon as noble in the same line as their father. The rest of the characters seem to be constantly trying to wriggle out of situations.

I may come to like, love or loathe Stannis, but I found his appreciation of Devos to be touching.

Thats good to hear. They've edited down Ayra's storyline a bit, that I was afraid they might just dump it and put the set-up for Ayra's later adventures in another character's hands.

Re: Game of Thrones 2.8 - "The Prince of Winterfell" - Rate and discus

I do have a bit of confusion though. Robb arrested his mother because she let Jamie escape? That next scene with Briane and Jamie didn't look like escape. I must of missed a line of dialog somewhere. Anyway, another great episode, and can't wait till next week.

Since others have expressed frustration at descriptions of book comparisons to things that have already happened as spoilers, I'll put all my book explanations in spoiler code from now on:
In the preceding episode (they showed this a little in the recap), Cat asked Brienne for her sword and cut to the next scene there. The overt implication was that she killed Jaime for his insults. What really happened was that she used the sword to cut the weaker irons binding him. She then ordered Brienne to escort him safely (and secretly) to King's Landing where she could trade Jaime for Sansa and Arya (not knowing that Arya isn't there any more).

Oh my God!!!! The Horn!!! I knew it, I knew it!!!!

Yes.

^^^This is awesome! :guffaw::lol: :rommie:

:( for no more Tywin v. Arya, but it was awesome while it lasted, certainly the best not-in-the-book thing they've done and one of best overall.

I forget the books specifics very quickly, and did wonder if that happened in the book. I couldn't remember it. But it worked nicely.

Not in the books. A total fabrication for the show - and yes, it was done extremely well. I, too, will miss their verbal fencing, although I was convinced that Littlefinger was going to "out" her in that one scene.

Re: Game of Thrones 2.8 - "The Prince of Winterfell" - Rate and discus

Stephen Dillane's portrayal of Stannis has grown on me... I think he's done a good job on a character that's something of a cipher even in the books. He's hard to visualize from just reading.

Yeah I had a feeling this was going to happen. I really hope they give future seasons an extra 2 episodes or so. With as successful as it has been, I don't see why they couldn't justify it.

They've said lots of times that this won't happen. 10 episode seasons it is. They just cannot produce more episodes in a calendar year without sacrificing quality.

What will help next year, though, is that they will no longer be adapting whole books into seasons. They will simply adapt as much of ASOS/book 3 as they can fit into 10 episodes, and then continue in season 4. They are adapting the whole saga, not individual books.

Wasn't Arya supposed to get Needle back at that point?

She doesn't get Needle back until late in ASoS, when she and The Hound encounter some of The Mountain's men.
