Spoilers Game Of Thrones’ Spinoff ‘House Of The Dragons’ ordered to series

  • Thread starter Enterprise is Great
  • Start date
The war was for Rhaenyra to win. She took King's Landing and captured Dowager Queen Alicent and Helaena, who is also a Dragon Rider btw. The Blacks still had more dragons despite losing Jace and his dragon Vermax.

Aegon had fled the capital and Aemond had flown to Harrenhal with his dragon and then went missing.

While the green political leadership was either captured or missing, the green commanders on the ground continued the fight. Cole, Gwayne and Ormund rallied their forces despite impending defeat. Ormund feigned surrender and then captured Tumbleton. Cole and Gwayne managed to delay Rhaenyra forces for a fornight thus allowing Ormund to build up his forces and he even managed to turn one of Rhaenyra's Dragon Riders to the Green side during the time that they bought him.

Cole was hated throughout the series but he did his part as a soldier and was a competent commander of men. Ormund was a good tactician despite being a religious bigot and a hypocrite.

Now despite Cole and Ormund deaths, Aegon and Aemond can still get their shit together and rally their remaining forces.

The Greens still have the Baratheons who have not joined the fight yet.

While i am a black supporter, the greens are certainly still in it to win.

Ulf is the worst person in HOTD right now. He managed to piss off both sides during a war.

I'll take compelling assholes any day over a piece of cardboard like Jon Snow.
So would I. Problem is there aren't any strong compelling assholes on the show. Like I said before, the only ones I find engaging are because of the actors (D'Arcy, Smith, Cooke, Needham) and not because of the writing. The same is true for the few non-assholes like Alys, Mysaria, and Helaena, all thinly written but elevated by their respective actors.

I wouldn't quite categorise him that way but I think it is aways difficult if you're playing the good guy, villains are always more fun to play.

I wouldn't disagree with that. By the way I agreed with what you said upthread about the Needham/Whishaw comparisons. Also as a fan of Glow I'm predisposed towards liking Gayle Rankin in anything (and for obvious reasons Matt can do little wrong. Boy he plays bad guys so well, it's interesting to see the Doctor as almost an outlier in his CV!)

Yeah, I'm a fan of  Glow, too, so I was thrilled when Rankin showed up here.

i can't help but wonder if Smith has deliberately played so many villains to contrast himself from The Doctor...and accidently discovered he's really good at them, too. Is there such thing as double typecasting?

David Tennant is also very good as wrong'uns. I seriously want to punch his character in Rivals.

The other thing I notice about Smith is that the older he gets the more he looks a little like Pertwee (or maybe it's just me)

Yeah, I can see the similarities. And agrees on Tennant going hard on the villain route, too (hello, Kilgrave).

I kinda get what you are saying about seeing the actor not the character. D'Arcy is a large part of why I am cheering for Rhaenyra. I do find the characters in the show interesting though.

Game of Thrones was full of fun or interesting good guys. Snow was a boring character combined with a boring actor.
I think Jon Snow is a decent enough character but I agree on the boring actor part. Kit Harrington is precisely why I didn't want a Jon Snow spin-off because I don't think he's strong enough of an actor lead a show.
