Galaxy Quest Series Back On

This is a great idea. I've been curious how they'd get them back off into space in any kind of a follow up since the series ended with the Thermians realizing the cast members weren't really their characters and them all going back to their lives on Earth.

How about a new species of aliens who don't know that the crew of the Protector is composed of actors on a TV show?

Yeah, wake me up when there's a trailer.

Meh, he just says in passing that "it's being written." Nothing to get excited about. Most stuff that gets written never gets made.
Exactly.

They've been trying to get a GQ follow-up going for so long, this is nothing to get excited about.

It's had almost as many false starts as there have been cancelled SW projects.

Wake me when there's actual news.

That's why it makes more sense to reboot and save that lesson for the end of the series.

Or Spaceballs, although at least now it looks like it's finally actually happening.

I can just picture it, an alien threat on the view screen, "Actors? What are actors?", it wonders. "Actors the Captain replies, "are... beings that can kill simply by reciting lines from Shakespeare! "

I love Galaxy Quest, but I simply cannot see how a regular TV series would work with its premise. It's like they want a space comedy like The Orville and decided that Galaxy Quest would fit that bill without really understanding that the concept doesn't work for anything but a movie.

since the series ended with the Thermians realizing the cast members weren't really their characters and them all going back to their lives on Earth.
No, it didn't. The Thermians thought Jason telling them they were actors was a ploy to trick Sarris.

Well, hypothetically, the bad guy in the film was only a general; the warring alien race still exists. The fight may continue, they may be attacking other world or come back in force, and the Galaxy Quest crew is once again sought.

But they are old, not as much use anymore, so they tell the good guy aliens (maybe a new species or a mix of both for the series) that there was a revival of the show called "Galaxy Quest: The Next Generation" and that crew has a more advanced ship and technology, that they can really help; even Tim can suggest they make supporting guest appearance, "Like, you know, Shatner and Scotty in that Star Trek film."

And being not enough, they also swipe up the technobabble writers, which can make for some fun technobabble jokes and what ("Beam across a galaxy with a handheld transporter? That's absurd! Even by my standards.")

Eventually they build from that from each season until they really do become protectors and real life heroes, not actors getting lucking and being heroes n a weekend outing.
