Gal Gadot cast as Wonder Woman In ‘Batman Vs. Superman’

Ant-Man also goes by Giant Man.

And Goliath, and Yellowjacket, and Wasp, and Scientist Supreme.

It sounds more heroic than Ant-Man.

Actually it kinda makes him sound like a New York football mascot.

Silver Surfer? He's silver and rides a surf board in space. Not too much of a stretch thinking that Marvel was capitalizing on the surfing craze of the 60s.

Yeah, but for the herald of an all-powerful cosmic being? A surfer?

At least it's not as dumb as having the incarnation of Death be a guy on skis. Oh, wait, Kirby did that too.

If she really had the strength and durability of a god, not only would she not need a perfect body but her strength and invulnerability would make her immune to exercise, there for, she should look more like a pudding pop than a bouncer.

Earlier today, I watched that (70's) SNL sketch where Superman (played by THEBILLMURRAY.) threw a party, where the Flash (Dan Akryod) and the Hulk (John Belushi!) double team Antman (Garrett Morris) a new one for being entirely pathetic.

I was thinking of that while reading this convo.

I think the only reason a lot of the superhero names sounds kind of cheesy today is simply because most of them are at least 50 years old now. Most things from that era sound cheesy today.

Pretty much everything Stan Lee created in the '60s was derivative of creature features/suspense movies/Amazing Stories. Any one of his origin stories would have fit right into a Twilight Zone episode.

DOJ will be using the New 52 origin for WW.

Let the jimmies be rustled!

I'm gonna take that with a grain of salt, because it's Roven (the kind of executive producer that's not really in the loop creatively, he's been known to talk out of his ass in the past), and he might just refer to the version he's heard of (I actually doubt they'll tackle WW's origin in this movie).

But if this turns out to be true, if this version of WW is really the daughter of Zeus, then this movie, and pretty much the whole DC Cinematic Universe with it, is dead to me, just like the New 52.

MoS made several huge mistakes, and while it did enough right for me to accept it as a foundation to build upon, this complete and utter misconception of what WW is about would be the last straw.

I'm serious, if they take their cues from the New 52, then I'm out all the way, because this is not WW to me, and I won't waste my money on a fake.

Did I miss something, because I don't really see what the big deal is about the Zeus thing in the new comics myself. The character has apparently had all kinds of different backstories over the years, and I don't see this really changing all that much about her.

And in any case, I've always found WW's origin to be the least interesting thing about her. I'd much rather just watch her adjusting to our world and interacting with other members of the Justice League.

There is no good way to do Wonder Woman's origin. Having the feminist superhero's powers come from her daddy is problematic at best, but the old "made from clay" origin is shit.

The statue brought to life by the Gods has been a consistent part of her background since her creation. Though I don't see this change as that big of a deal.

I don't know, the made from clay bit ads a nice bit of mythological-ness and air to her origin and it's not anymore "shit" or ridiculous in "human-looking alien comes to earth as a child, becomes invincible man-god", "billionaire trains in various forms of martial arts, dresses as a bat and spends his nights pummeling criminals," "human-looking guy is the amphibious king of an underwater civilization", "guy is exposed to chemicals/experiment, can run very fast"; "billionaire spends his nights shooting arrows at bad-guys," or, really, pretty much every comic book origin that's out there.

I think "goddess creates a daughter from clay and it's granted life by the gods" is well within the spectrum of superhero origins.
