Gal Gadot cast as Wonder Woman In ‘Batman Vs. Superman’

God damn it DC. First you throw away Joss Whedon and now Michelle MacLaren. Stop screwing this up.

Curse you Marvel! You parted ways with Edgar Wright, Edward Norton, Jon Favreau and Patty Jenkins over creative differences. Stop screwing this up!

*sarcasm off*
The difference there being that Marvel Studios' track record is by this point widely admired, while many people think the WB's only success was the Nolan Batman movies.

WB also has the 6 LOTR/Hobbit movies, 8 Harry Potter films and the Matrix trilogy.

WB knows how to produce franchises, but that is seemingly ignored anytime WB makes/announces a decision people dislike. Contrary wise, Marvel's missteps (IM 2, Thor, Incredible Hulk, Agents of Shield), or creative decisions (the aforementioned splits with actors and directors) are normally swept under the rug in lieu of their bigger successes (Avengers, Captain America TWS, GOTG, Iron Man 1).

All we know is WB and McLaren split over creative differences. Which could be anything.

The official reason for her leaving is 'creative differences,' and that seems legit according to the scuttlebutt that has reached me. MacLaren and Warner Bros couldn't agree on anything - including what time period to set the movie. More than that, MacLaren had some very particular visions for the film, visions that maybe would have alienated fandom. Although perhaps Diana having a tiger sidekick/pet she could talk with would have appealed to people more than I expect.

Wow. Maybe she mixed up the two Captain Marvels and thought the DC one was the Marvel one and tried to take elements from the Carol Danvers Capt Marvel and ended up with stuff from DC's Capt Marvel.

Gail Simone made some tweets (she has since deleted) about WW in BvS and how she was received and was essentially the break out character. Maybe WB saw the reaction WW got from test audiences and decided to continue with what made her stand out in BvS.

Guess Terrio and Snyder made her work.

From what people are saying on CBR; rumors allege that they were divided over when the film should be set (time period) and MacLaren wanting Diana to have a talking tiger sidekick.

We may have dodged a bullet.

Talking tigers belong with Shazam!

Talking tigers belong with Shazam!

WB should slate her for Shazam.

Billy, Black Adam and Tawney The Talking Tiger.

Frosties The Movie?

Gu-rrreat.

If the talking tiger rumors are true, then WB was smart to get out. Pick a director who is the best fit for the job and one who will craft WW the way WB envisions for the character.

Okay, that should clear this up. A tiger she could talk with is not the same thing as "a talking tiger." Wonder Woman's power set in the comics includes the ability to talk to animals. So presumably this would be a normal tiger, with Diana's powers enabling her to communicate with it. That's no weirder than Aquaman being able to talk to sea life. See also Doctor Doolittle, Doctor Who ("I speak horse"), Tarzan, etc.

There is also the time period WB wanted to set the film in, that WB and MacLaren allegedly couldn't agree on. With the tiger sidekick, it does seem more like a gimmick. You're right about WW's ability to communicate with animals.

With regards to Aquaman though...

Geoff Johns added this tidbit during his New 52 run. Johns is known for his cheeky jabs at old comic adages. His GL and Superman run have many.

Hopefully WB slates another director soon to keep their filming schedule for this fall on time. Does it have to be a woman though?

After all the fuss that was made about getting a female director for the world's premiere female superhero, I suspect it probably does.

Who, I have no idea. If they're looking at grabbing up-and-coming talent, Ana Lily Amirpour might be worth a look-in.

Katheryn Bigelow ftw. She directed The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty and Point Break.

We're talking about two high profile directors who have left the film over creative differences.

Now had it been a talking tiger with machine guns....

Or talking tigers riding giant dogs. One of which is dressed like Thor.

Or wearing checkered suits.

Thinking about it, comics are absurd no matter how you approach them. I feel bad about ragging on the talking tiger bit from earlier. Maybe it could work.

It's too bad this didn't work out, but if MacLaren wasn't a good fit for the material or the character, then it's probably for the best.

The only thing that's worrying is the suggestion that they still haven't locked down a story at this late stage (or hell, even a time period). When the movie was announced, I had hoped it was because they already had a clear story and vision for the character in their new DC movie universe, but it's looking more and more like that's not the case.

Maybe Lexi Alexander could direct it. She's the only female director to tackle a superhero movie. Although the one she did was Punisher Warzone.
