Gaith does Wonder Woman

Is this suit concept on the right track?

  • Yeah. The comics suit looks ridiculous and will never fly on the big screen.

  • No, the comics suit is fine! Which is why there've been so many WW movies already!

They were fighting in their underpants in 300. I'm pretty sure the costume I posted would work just fine.

I kind like Sarah Lancaster from Chuck for the role.

Woah..she does have the looks:bolian::drool:
But I have never watched "Chuck" , so I cant judge her acting skills very well.
But looks wise, she could even play Lynda Carter in a biopic:cool:
Talking about WW and her mythological origins..
I think also, that its more of an strenght than a weaknes. The animated movie used that very well, even though it wasnt perfect on other areas.
And Im sure Hollywood people would be happy..because they could add some CGI Gods and monsters to the screen:rommie:
I also agree that the scrip needs to be very good..and the director:)
WW needs to be as good as the Dark Knight, X-Men 2 and the Iron Man films:techman:
And no...not like Catwoman:scream:!

That was men. When women do it it's 'demeaning' and portrays them only as 'sex objects'.

Which is why Gerard Butler hasn't appeared in a number of rom-coms lately, because women don't think of him as a sex object. At all. :shifty:

I'd go with the armored look. Though there's nothing wrong with WW's current costume that not drawing the shorts like crotchfloss couldn't solve.

Ya know... the more I think about it, the more I think you've actually got it right (apart from the terrifyingly small waist ;)). I don't like the stars on the skirt or more than one color on the boots (otherwise, they look like oversized bowling shoes), and she'd obviously need a haircut for regular combat, but I do dig the "modernized but still recognizably ancient armor" look. It may not be the most revealing, and may even look a bit silly (not sure there's any avoiding that), but it may also be the ideal core concept.

I'm afraid there are so many problems with Wonder Woman that the costume is the least of things. I grew up on her as a heroic icon for women, but she was sort of a default icon - i.e., all we had to work with. Today remnants of the original origin are stumbling blocks to the character ever working on screen - but comics fans, even those who have never read her book, would scream bloody murder if someone did the right thing and revamped the character completely.

And its a sad fact that alomst all female superheroes have undergone numerous revamps, because they are jumbles of male sexual fantasies and basic superhero tropes, which are two things that are by nature somewhat at odds.

You want to get Wonder Woman to screen, yes, the costume would need some major changes - but so would the backstory.

1) Amazons are not Greek. Never were Greek. In fact the ancient Greeks hated the Amazons, who were universally portrayed as Easterners and did not wear anything resembling classical armor, ever.
2) Paradise Island and the perfect all-female society is stupid and a weird fetish of WW's creator. It needs to go.
3) Despite George Perez's tortured explanation for the costume, we all know that WW dresses as she does because she was created during WWII and thus her costume is American flag inspired. Also stupid and needs to go. But then I feel that way about Superman's 1920s circus weightlifter inspired costume too. In general superheroes dress like complete dorks.

Keep the Amazon aspect. The idea of an ancient Amazon in the modern day world is great. But use some real history of Amazons and come up with a better explanation for how she and some remnant of her society survived. Also, put some men in it - an ancient matriarchal society is a much more interesting alternative to the modern world than a women-only classical society, which is a freaking contradiction in terms since the ancient Greeks thought women were inferior in every possible way to men. Let her fight the Greek gods and various other mythological stuff -that at least makes some sort of sense since the Amazons and Greeks were enemies. But then play with the ancient society sensibilities versus modern society sensibilities. They've started to do this a little with WW, whose character now seems defined by a kind of hard-headed battle-readiness not sanitized with the usual, "I'll kick the shit out of someone and put them in the hospital with major injuries that might maim them for life but I'll never kill so I'm morally superior" crap that a lot of superheroes operate out of.

Rewrites are not necessarily bad and considering how greatly the status of women has changed in our society in the last 70 years, of course female characters need to be rewritten so that they're not some weird throwbacks. As for tradition and the issue of making a movie - a good movie made with the primary goal of being a great adventure tale about an Amazonian superhero could do more to revitalize Wonder Woman than anything else in the world. No matter what she's wearing.

What would you rather them wear?

I have no problem with Superman or Wonder Woman's costume.

None of this matters because if a movie ever gets made they'll hire some waifish blond chick to play her.

No doubt. I'm fairly sure Hollywood's idea of Wonder Woman would be some teeny little thing who looks like she can't lift a sandwich, much less a tank.

Well the thing is, if they would have gotten off their collective asses at WB/DC they could have had Monica Bellucci playing her. Considering the woman is as Italian as the Vatican she could easily pull off the Med. woman easily. She's no waif and hardly fat, she's curvy and honestly I think everyone wanted her in the role. But WB/DC blew it, big time.

Megan Fox... no.

Although... I kinda think in some ways Gemma Arterton (whatever) the gal in Prince of Persia could be an interesting choice too.. maybe for a slightly younger "new" Wonder Woman. She does strike me as looking like a young Monica Bellucci.

Course to be realistic they'd have to pick some lady Wrestler or someone to pull of the physical look of WW... but can they act?

The best thing is to cast an unknown beauty to play Wonder Woman and then fill the supporting cast with popular actors.

I think Megan Fox said Wonder Woman is lame.

[edit] Serinda Swan might make a good WW.

She is 5'7" and fills out that Zatanna costume on SMALLVILLE quite well. :)

True that. Bruce and Clark and go have fun, but Diana has to stay pretty much virginal and chaste.

Excuse me, but no, you're wrong on the 'virginal and chaste part'. Superman was pretty virginal and chaste around Lana Lang, and didn't hop into bed with Lois when they'd been getting intimate with each other early in their relationship (pre-reveal that he is Superman era). Bruce Wayne never really has sex with any woman, not even Selina Kyle; to him, sex is nothing more than an itch, one that doesn't bother him enough for him to want to scratch (with the recent exception of Wonder Woman). So, I believe that they're all straight arrow.
