I have some optimism about what's happening in the Middle East right now. It won't lead to a Golden Age overnight, anymore than the fall of Communism did-- that is still working itself out even now-- but I think it could be the start of things finally turning around.

As do I. Hopefully this will all lead to a more peaceful coexistence for all the countries involved. It'd be nice to travel there and not fear for my life.
Yes, not fearing for your life is always a good thing. 
Long way to go before a lot of places pass THAT hurdle. Things are downright ugly in Syria (Heck, they are taking riot control advice from Iran!!!!), Pakistan is basically just one missed hand-out away from total FUBAR, and Libya has still got a very long way to go (civil war remains a possibility).
As regards Ghadaffi (or however the heck his name is spelled) - good news, long overdue.
Undoubtedly, some will go on about how he should have been brought up before an international court and made to account for his actions. Yeah, right. With Ghadaffi's special brand of crazy (and a little help from the media), any attempt at court proceedings would have certainly become a televised three-ring-circus (with adjacent State Fair and air show, probably). IMO, this way was best.

I'm not getting the joke?
It's a reference to that Outer Limits-like first season episode of TNG with the little mind-controlling trilobites. I think it was called "Conspiracy." The guy talked about "peaceful coexistence" in very ominous tones.
