G.I. JOE: Resolute

Wasn't there already a thread on this? I could swear there was one that's a few pages long already.

Anywho, I went into watching this skeptical about what I'd find. I thought it would have been something like that Valour v. Venom crap, but I've seen all the parts now and I have to say, this is freakin' awesome.

For me, I tend to judge things like this on the fight scenes first. Every one I've seen is riveting so far. On top of that, it has a hard sci-fi feel that should fit in perfectly with the folks here.

Just my 2 cents

it's good, but for all the vaunted realism of people dying, no bugger reloads until the last episode and then only Gung-Ho, Destro and The Baroness do.

Come on. You of all people I would have thought would be impressed with that last Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow death match.

oh, yeah, that was badass. as was Snake's infil of the island, but come on, the amount of ammo Duke and Scarlett expend in that fight with the Cobras in Omsk, they should've reloaded about seven times!

Not a real huge fan of the source material, but this was very watchable.

A few questions, though, if someone of knowledge would not mind answering:

Is this going to be a regular series, or is this just a one-shot movie? I would think that, if it's supposed to be a series, that killing their cooler characters is sort of a numbnuts move. Zartan and Storm Shadow dead? I just don't see the rationale if they are going to go to series.

Why was Major Blood killed? Who killed him? Was that explained and I missed it?

Is it me, or do a lot of these characters seem to be drawn in a way that their faces are unusually wide at the mouth, especially Destro and Road Block?

How is it only one Joe is dead while Cobra bodies line the streets? Yeah that's realistic.

Of course when you want a compelling story about "A Real American Hero" you turn to ... a Brit??

At least they're using bullets, which really is a step up on the reality ladder from the old cartoons, where everything shot stun lasers that only blew up inanimate objeccts.

I just learned this thing existed; it's going to be tonight at midnight on Adult Swim/Cartoon Network. I take it I don't need to know anything about the franchise to enjoy this movie? It's 90 minutes with commercials btw, and according to the tv listings search this is the ONLY time they're airing it.

^^ Their bumpers have really been pushing that how many people tune into this will determine if these "events" will keep happening (though I suppose that's always true but I this is kind of a testing the waters thing), so I hope people tune in. I know not everyone has Nielsen boxes but I think Tivos count, not sure about DVR's, and then there's online viewing, I hope it does well enough that they do more things like this.

Pretty sweet. I liked that they actually started killing people so there's a potential endgame to the war as opposed to "next week on GI Character Shields."

And while they did only lose one named Joe, they killed a shit ton of greenshirts aboard the Flagg. Course, no one seemed to give a shit and Doc apparently had nothing better to do in the med bay than poke around in Bazooka's mouth. Really, there weren't hundreds of horribly burned and mangled nameless crewmen you could have been triaging?

They also need to better manage certain shootout setups, cause Scarlett and Duke with pistols in the open surrounded by a dozen cobra troopers with assault rifles should have had more Joe "oh shit" duck and cover and less Joe standing tall under massive suppressive fire plinking cobras like they're gunning for a kewpie doll.

I've never seen the old cartoon - so as a series about generic miltary bad asses it works for me.:techman:

I wish the Defiant space shuttle and crawler had been shown during the original cartoon series. That was an awesome toy to look at and drool over (but I hear the crank to tilt the shuttle up was prone to breaking).

Seeing this, makes me wish for a Metal Gear Solid anime. It had the right amount of violence without being overdone.

Although the cobra operatives are as bad as storm troopers when it comes to aiming, particularly when Duke and Scarlet in the Siberian missile complex. Zartan went down too easily considering he's mercenary.

Were they never shown in the DIC episodes either??

Sorry, I consider all of the 80's episodes to be "the original cartoon series" :)

It never appeared in the cartoon to my knowledge. I think it was in one issue of the comic.
