The complete series is $97.99 at the US Amazon, with free shipping to boot!

I don't know how long this sale will last (as it's a combination of several sales), and it's definitely the best price I've seen on the set.

The complete Stargate Atlantis is down to $150 right now as well.

Wow, that's quite a deal... Gonna have to consider grabbing this despite my dislike of the later seasons.

Although the negative reviews of this complete set are a little troubling.

I think I would upgrade to Blu-Ray if it ever came out. The sets could definitely benefit from updated menu screens.

Most of the negative reviews are from the scratched discs, IIRC. At this price, I'd be willing to risk a few scratches. (And then use a DiscDoctor to hopefully fix it.)

Blu-Ray doesn't have to equate to 1080p high definition, they can easily just re-release the seasons and extra material on a small number of disks.

There's nothing preventing anyone from putting anything on BR, the only place technical limitations come into factor are when deciding what the final output resolution will be. If it was shot in good quality film or digital it's possible to have true high def, if it was shot in video for NTSC broadcast standards of the 1980s you're pretty much shit out of luck ever seeing it in real HD.

I think the first two seasons might be difficult to bring to HD....the later years are probably fine. I know "Entity" was the first episode filmed in HD, and they moved to that permanently eventually.

Wow. Quality control is apparently lacking. I'm glad I have the old sets.

I believe the first three seasons were shot on 16mm, but for later seasons they switched to 35mm, and then finally to HD. Like most science fiction series, it comes down to what resolution the visual effects were rendered at. And I'm not sure of the answer to that question.

Damn, nice price. I'm so tempted just to order it as a back up though...

I think we all know that won't ever happen. Consumers expect Blu-Rays to have real HD content.

I think that it's the packaging that's done most of it. I've seen similar complaints in other cardboard-packaged sets.

As for Blu-Ray, I'd imagine that any release would depend on how well the SGU Blu-Ray sets sell.

Isn't SGU the first complete season of *any* SG series to make it to Blu-Ray? Far as I know, SGA only had the Fan's Choice, and SG-1's only BRs were the movies.

Huh? What? None of SG-1 or SGA has been released on Blu-Ray, save the insulting SGA "Fan's choice" DVD. Are you talking about SGU? I'm very confused.

EDIT: Nevermind, he meant SGU...

The Ark of Truth and Continuum were released as a double-feature on Blu-Ray.

The format is still finding it's footing in a landscape where people still buy DVDs predominately.

A BR release at this point seems unlikely at this point in time, but that doesn't negate a BR release in 5 years, when the format will have a much larger user base.

Like Star Trek, Stargate is a franchise that just isn't going away anytime soon. (Whether it's on the air or not.)
