As for detail....how about showing Ten Forward lit and with people in there moving around? Maybe some people in their quarters too.

Love it, its a good combo of the 6 ft model with some extra detail.

Today on an HD broadcast of Enterprise on Netflix I noticed all the warp trails are correct on that show...so I agree this is a great opportunity to fix the FX that were shoehorned into the stock ILM shots.

Growing up with this as a kid I got overly frustrated with the TNG special effect technique of over-using the same shots to denote different battles or pieces of action.

Need to show a klingon Civil war? Why not re-use the battle and explosion from Yesterday's Enterprise?
Still feeling lazy next season, write that Ferengi (!) have stolen Klingon Birds of Prey (!!!) so you can use the same fx shots again!

Also the TNG warp effect is one of my favourite SFX sequences in all of Sci-fi (which is why I was a bit annoyed they ruined it for Enterprise but that's by the by...) but did TNG ever make a new warp out sequence apart from the two created for the opening title sequence and the one for the pilot where it warps away from the Q-Cage?

More than anything I'm hoping the FX team will go for variety and not have to sit through the same 10 shots of the Enterprise over and over and over.
(which I think was the TOS-R's weakness) try to recreate shot for shot FX sequences created using archaic techniques...)
Using Modern Technology to make things look as bad as 1987 isn't the best idea either, I hope they're not too afraid to change things if it makes them better (Phasers not out of Torpedo launchers, ship classes matching on screen and dialouge etc.

Oh and if they can finally fix the spelling of the Brittain that'd be handy too

(In a related note, if there is a "TNG FX shot drinking game" out there? I'm sure we could get hammered looking at the same flyby shots of the Big D! )

The one shot I never want to see again is that through-the-neck warp fly-by shot of the Enterprise we always saw in practically every episode. Every time I see that it looks like the ship is flying at some weird angle the way the stars are positioned.

It's kind of like the original Enterprise doing its flyby at warp, where it flies into the camera at an angle. It just looks weird.

Yup the stars do not go past the camera at the angle the Enterprise is pointing. Would be nice to get a new version of this

EDIT: I am not sure if you meant this one actually, but this shot does need fixing as well!

So all they need to do is to match the star movement to the angle of the ship.

I'd like to see some of the movie era Miranda class ships replaced with vessel designs that look like they came after Kirks time, but before Picards. I'd also like to see a new design for the Stargazer in "The Battle", so it looks like a unique explorer design, as opposed to a movie era Enterprise kit put together! (Seriously, are we supposed to buy that this ship served for 70+ years, without any major redesigns to the look of it's nacelles, etc ... the ship looked like it came from a century earlier, and was dwarfed by most of the other explorer classes of the 2340s, etc... would they seriously send such a small, old vessel into deep space missions after 60 or more years of service? The Enterprise in Star Trek III was considered outdated after 40 years, in Star Trek III. Stargazer's registry (NCC-2893) indicated it was launched a few years after the Excelsior (NCC-2000). They should edit in a new design for the Constellation class that looks more advanced that Kirks ship (which would help explain why the Constitution class was retired ... they were replaced with larger, more versatile Constellation and Excelsior class explorers, maybe? They could still keep the four nacelle design, etc... just make the design look more "post ST VI" era with CGI.

I was also thinking that maybe in Q Who? when Picard orders Worf to target the source of the Borg tractor beam and it takes him three tries before he hits it. And those first 2 were way off. That if there is an reusable footage where Picard can be watching the shots miss and Worf, off screen, explaining that the Borg tractor beam is deflecting the phasers, and he's compensating before the third shot hits its target. It would serve to make Worf look like he's not a poor marksman and it would tie in with DS9's The Way of the Warrior when he uses the Defiant's tractor beam to deflect the Klingon distrupters.

Some other ship Picard served on? That's probably what it is anyway. (It's not the Stargazer - the registry number is different.)

I think changing the design of the Stargazer is going too far, frankly. Other ships I am fine with, but the Stargazer is named, it's known, it's across multiple media, I think changing the design is a bad idea.

I agree. Replacing the same old Excelsiors and Mirandas is one thing, but there's no need to change the Stargazer.

While I agree with you that if there is to be the same type of VFX changes for TNG as TOS-R had, that it would be nice to see some new designs. But as far as the Stargazer is concerned, don't expect that ship to change. Its design is far too ingrained in the canon for anything else to represent it. Plus, it's not like you can change the interior sets, which were all reuses of the TMP Enterprise sets anyway. And as far as the ship being "too old" for active duty...what about all those Excelsiors, Mirandas, and Oberths? They are all active duty. What makes the Stargazer any different?

Rick Sternbach made it clear that that desktop model was always meant to represent the Stargazer, different registry or not. It's like if you flew a certain airplane during WWII, and then bought a corresponding desktop model of said airplane. Obviously the model will not have the same registry as your plane, but it's meant to represent it anyway.

Would look great on your resume!" would get them more meshes than they needed in all likelyhood for very little expense, if any!

I'd pay real money never to see an Oberth class ship again tbh. If they want to re-edit The Search for Spock and take it out I'd be eternally grateful too!

I doubt that would ever happen. CBS isn't going to go to some internet BBS (no matter how talented the artists there are) to get models. There's all kinds of legalities about that.

I'd pay real money never to see an Oberth class ship again tbh. If they want to re-edit The Search for Spock and take it out I'd be eternally grateful too!

Oh I didn't think it would....would be nice though.
Whoever was behind that "design the next Enterprise" competittion seemed to set the CG sites ablaze with different designs and renders, etc, and that was just for a...erm I don't know what it was for...a computer game?
Whatever, that's nothing compared to getting their designs on TV.

It won't happen but it would be amazing if it were to, imagine the creative designs we'd suddenly see

More varied exterior shots of the Enterprise

Better picture quality on the first few seasons (or was that a problem between NTSC and PAL that can never be corrected?)

I always hated the 'streaking stars' effect when the ship went to Warp speed. WTF was that supposed to be?! Stars and planets? Aren't they millions and millions of miles away? Why were there so many of them and why were they so close to the ship?

Get rid of Worf's sash - what was the point of him wearing that?

Add some colour to the interior - beige? Really?

Not quite SFX, but I'd love for them to improve/replace those funky cheap-o monsters that Salia and Anya turn into in "The Dauphin".
