Future Sites of the Summer Olympics

If you could choose a city/cities in the world that has/have never hosted the Summer Olympic Games, which would you like to see in the future? Here are my choices:

Johannesburg, South Africa - I'd like to see Africa finally host the games. South Africa seems like it's progressive and stable enough.

Honolulu, Hawaii (USA)

Kingston, Jamaica

Monte Carlo, Monaco

Bratislava, Slovakia

Wellington, New Zealand

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Kowloon City, Hong Kong

Budapest, Hungary

Vienna, Austria

Chicago, Illinois (USA)

Seattle, Washington (USA)

Shanghai, China

Edit:

Miami, Florida (USA)

Florence, Italy

Toronto, Ontario (Canada)

Prague, Czech Republic

Edit:

Geneva, Switzerland

Marseilles, France

Casablanca, Morocco

Nairobi, Kenya

Cancun, Mexico

Will we ever see more nations from the Southern Hemisphere, or perhaps countries from the Islamic world and Africa host the Summer Olympics?

What say you?

I like the often talked about Seattle/Vancouver joint bid, would certainly be a first.

It would be a great statement to have the games in an Islamic state - but how much of a barrier are female athletes going to pose? Even the ones that some of the Arabic nations sent across to London could only compete fully clothed. On home soil would they even tolerate that? And would all female athletes bow to that pressure?

The other question being, why should the Olympic community bow to that pressure at all?

Future venues - I'd love the games to visit Tokyo again.

Other than that - Paris, or Dublin, as that would be the next best thing to Britain getting it again!

The bigger issue is not cultural but of health. The heat of the Middle Eastern summer is too much for any human to tolerate when competing in outdoor sport.
The only way for a Middle Eastern country to host the games would be to do in winter when the temperature is milder. But then it won't really be the 'Summer Olympics'...

Mumbai, India
Alexandria or Cairo, Egypt
Tel Aviv, Israel
Bogota, Colombia
Luanda, Angola
Manila, Phillipines,
Jakarta, Indonesia
NYC, USA

Maybe in 50 years or so.

Toronto can't hold the Olympics and I think New York would run into the same problem with these protestors that come out like at the G20. These groups like "Anonymous" and masked protestors will come out and do their best to make a statement like setting either city on fire. I do find it interesting that you don't see them in the poorer countries that are affected. I guess they can't get time off from being privileged university students.

What's unfortunate is if you deny a Muslim country the games, it's more fodder for the terrorists and anti-democratic forces, who will tell the people how we don't respect their religion and so forth. It's a sad world we live in when people are so swayed.

There's probably a very good chance Qatar gets the 2024 Games btw. or if not then, then 2028, unless the football World Cup is a disaster (which it won't be), or the IOC suddenly becomes less corrupt (which is even more unlikely).

The Philippines (where I came from) isn't a very progressive country, and I don't think the government can afford to build the infrastructure.

Berlin, Germany

Berlin - 1936

Edit:

Dublin, Ireland

Mumbai, India

Yes, good ones, too. Some more:

Lisbon, Portugal

Warsaw, Poland - Would be nice to see a former Communist country (including the ones I've mentioned) host the Olympics.

Kyoto, Japan

Chances are, we probably won't be seeing "new cities" being introduced to the summer games at any time in the next few decades (with the possible exception of Istanbul in 2020). Once a former venue, there's always the possibility of the IOC choosing it again to host the games.

Got an idea for a new event for those games:

Seriously though, I don't see any reason why Berlin wouldn't be able to host the games, assuming they could afford it. Berlin today is not the same as 76 years ago.

Holding the events in the late evening/night might negate that somewhat.

Florence, Italy
Very unlikely, bordering on impossible. Florence is actually a small-ish city, and it will be unable to deal with an event of such magnitude. The only two cities in Italy large enough to host the Summer Olympics are Rome (hosted in 1960) and Milano. Florence could maybe compete with a joint bid (for example: Florence-Pisa), but the logistics of it would be a nightmare.

Hmm, I didn't realize that. Milan would've been my other choice in Italy.

I was also thinking of Dubai, UAE, but again there would be the climate issue. Holding the events only at night would make the games lengthy and difficult, considering there are usually a number of sporting events going on simultaneously. If they could engineer an "indoor" outdoor stadium that's fully air conditioned, then it might work.

Leipzig actually bidded for the games that London eventually got. It was deemed too small to accomodate everyone but I actually like the idea of a smaller city hosting the games because I think in huge, bustling cities like London or Berlin they're a logistics and traffic nightmare.

Stockholm - had so much fun in that city when i was there.

Tokyo - a strong reality that actually the 5 rings will visit the city soon. a bit expensive though

Paris - they so wanted it when London couldn't be bothered (and got it anyway). so yeah, give it to paris.

Madrid - so the country is economically probably not a viable place for some time and Barcelona (and its success) remains in many a memory. but somethin about madrid...it has the infrastructure in place already.

Ah i did not read the initial post properly. Soz!

I will amend my list!

Madrid! - has all the infrastructure (Along with Tokyo most likely city to host the 2020 games as the two cities have most of the buildings built).

Malaga - give the south of Spain a real boost and close to Africa.

Montevideo - beautiful city

Toronto

San Frandisco!
