Future of Paramount+ among merger talks

“Paramount can get approved at 1-1 because it could be a bureau action,” said McDowell, now a partner at Cooley LLP. “The conventional thinking, which is inaccurate, is that you need commission votes for high-profile mergers. Only if there’s something ‘new or novel.’ The Skydance proposal is a simple transfer of control of licenses. They’re not already a broadcaster, they aren’t other issues at play. So, it should be approved on bureau action so that’s something that you do not need an FCC vote of the commissioners to get done.”

The CBSParamount Global legal team and representatives for Donald Trump said that they were in “continued mediation” to settle the president’s $20 billion lawsuit against the network over the way that a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris was edited.

The update came in a new filing in federal court in Texas in Friday, as the sides asked the judge for an extension of deadlines in filing motions to compel and responses. The judge, Matthew Kacsmaryk, quickly granted the extensions.

The legal teams told the judge that they are not asking him to extend a June 23 deadline for CBS to file a response to Trump’s opposition to their motion to dismiss the case.

A Federal mediator has told Paramount to pay tRump the $20 million if it wants the merger with Skydance to go through.

Lawyers for Donald Trump and CBSParamount Global asked a judge to put a pause on proceedings until July 3, announcing that they were in advanced stages of settlement talks.

“The Parties respectfully submit that good cause to stay all proceedings exists because the Parties are engaged in good faith, advanced, settlement negotiations,” the parties said in a filing on Monday in federal court in Texas.

The latest court filing is an indication that a settlement is imminent.

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that a mediator had proposed a $20 million settlement.

this is sorted out, sad it took a bribe to do it.

The money is not going to Trump:

Deadline said:
The settlement figure is identical to the amount that Disney paid in December to settle a Trump defamation lawsuit against ABC News over comments that George Stephanopoulos made on This Week. Like Disney’s settlement, the Paramount sum will be made to Trump’s future presidential library and includes legal costs.

Trump wanted a $25 million settlement. He's not getting what he asked for by any means.
