Has anyone done a book on Data's pre-Enterprise career? It'd be interesting to see how he was treated by other crews and captains.
^There is at least one young adult novel featuring Data at the Academy and The Buried Age by Christopher touches on how Data was treated at pre-Enterprise postings.

One of the best things in that book, in my opinion. And there were a lot of great things in that book.

Have to follow for canon reasons, yes. But the writers respect each others work, have editorial controls in place, and try to maintain continuity now, so the question is: are comics considered to be as important to the novel timeline and part of their continuity?
^Plus whatever other damage the wholly implausible Hobus supernova did.
I don't think there's a solid rule either way, it pretty much just depends on the author and the book.
^ Used to be that way but they communicate well anymore and I haven't seen contradictions in any relaunch material. The editorial controls work pretty well. PD even made fine changes in Blind Man's Bluff as a result of Destiny.

Generally Pocket and IDW have been striking independent courses. Naturally we respect each other's work, but sometimes that means respecting each other's right and need to follow our own paths. Indeed, some of IDW's miniseries aren't even consistent with one another, let alone with the novels. Also, given the very different production schedules between novels and comics, it's just not practical for them to coordinate closely with one another.
One or two Pocket Trek tales have alluded to elements of IDW's Klingons: Blood Will Tell. And there's a nod or two to John Byrne's Gary Seven comics in DTI: Watching the Clock, although those comics are not in a compatible continuity with Greg Cox's Eugenics Wars novels, and the overall John Byrne IDW continuity is incompatible with other parts of the novel continuity like Vanguard (and indeed has inconsistencies with post-TOS screen canon, such as giving the Klingons an emperor in the 23rd century). But mostly the novels don't take cues from IDW. Conversely, those IDW comics written by Trek novelists (Peter David, KRAD) are consistent with those authors' respective novels, but as a rule the comics don't take cues from Pocket.

I also noticed that for Typhon 2, Martin researched the Gorn in comics to retain some previously laid elements about the species. I appreciated his research in that regard.
I noticed NF referenced its 2 comics a few times, made me glad I read them. It is one of the reasons I think vanguard would be great for a comic run, its relative independence from other series.

I like that idea.
I just don't see Picard going admiral. If he feels he is done in the center seat, I see him leaving starfleet because of what Kirk told him in Gen and he feels a ship isn't the best environment for raising his son. I more see him taking a job for the UFP and living in the vineyard. I also like what Countdown and STO did with Picard becoming ambassador to Vulcan.
I liked the idea of Sisko being given the E since he is a television captain and with him kind of outside the ds9 story now, I'd like to see him in a continual series. Plus, we could use a black Enterprise captain since it hasn't been done.
Also, I wonder if Sisko were given the E if Worf would feel slighted/insulted enough to return to the house of Martok since it was sisko who told him he would never be given a command and Sisko doesn't know the E like Worf.
