Future of Next Gen Lit??

GalaxyClass1701

Captain
Captain
What do you want to see with the hinting that Picard is going to except promotion or retire.

I really don't want to see Worf ad Captain of the Enterprise so should that happen, with Picard and Crusher leaving soo most likely and Riker and Troi already gone is it time for another relaunch?

IMO there are three routes

1. Promoting Worf and bringing in a new CMO maybe Ogowa.

2. A Relanch: A new Capatain, new First Officer (Worf transfers or resigns), new CMO maybe new Enginner.

3. End Next Gen as we no it. The Enterprise moves one but we really follow it. The next Gen novels continue but more as spot lights. A novel about Picard as an Admiral, or one about Geordi ECT.

As much as I hate to say it I think I want 3. I dont want to see Worf as Captain and if we move the Enterprise to the side it might make room for other novels like Aventine.

I really rather hope Picard keeps the Enterprise for a good while yet. I don't think I've ever enjoyed TNG more than the crew we've settled on since Greater Than the Sum, and I also rather like the Enterprise's prestige mission directly under President Bacco. I think there's still lots to explore with this set up, and am in no hurry to see it disappear, especially after the bumpy cluster of novels it took to get us here!

I can't imagine an ongoing tie-in book series entitled "The Next Generation" and set on the Enterprise-E that only features Captain Worf, CMO Ogawa and a whole new crew.

A TNG fan picking up a TNG novel has an expectation that it will feature many of the TV and movie cast. There are many stories that can be told between "First Contact" and the "Destiny" trilogy (and "Typhon Pact") that would appeal to a bigger audience than a series about Captain Worf and CMO Ogawa.

In any case, Ogawa is on the Titan.

The DS9 Relaunch features lots of its TV characters and, even when some of those characters had seemingly departed, they were still being discussed and most have returned at some point. The VOY Relaunch features lots of its TV characters and, even when some of those characters had seemingly departed, they were still being discussed and most have returned at some point. Not Janeway yet. The ENT Relaunch features lots of the TV characters and, even when some of those characters had seemingly departed, they were still being discussed and most have returned at some point. Even Trip.

Spoiler

If you read IFM Ogowa transferred off of Titan to take the posting on Challenger.

While I love the TNG crew, I also think there comes a point where they should eventually move on. They've been together for what--18 years now? I'd rather they not stay together as long as the TOS crew did personally.

One of the things I love the most about the TNG relaunch was the introduction of new characters alongside the familiar ones. I do think they should take the next step and eventually introduce a new captain for the Enterprise-E. Not to give out any story ideas, but I wouldn't mind the new skipper being someone we saw before in either TNG, DS9, or VOY...

Spoiler.

True, but...
Since Challenger is destroyed there's nothing to stop her being reassigned back to Titan - I've no idea whether that will happen or not, as it's up to editorial direction, but her presence in IFM is no bar to her returning to Titan afterwards.

She left for a reason though she didn't want to raise here child on Titan in the ass end of space. Maybe Enterprise continues its more local missions.

We're dancing on the line of "story ideas" here. Just a friendly reminder to keep them general and not too specific.

Also, GalaxyClass1701, I coded your spoilers. If you were having difficulty with the tags you can use the little

That said, does a ship with a complement of 350 need more than one doctor?

She's an Admiral now, so I doubt it.

Yes. If the one doctor was to be killed or incapacitated in some was, a second doctor would be of great importance.

I was honestly pretty surprised that we jumped a year and a half between Losing The Peace and Typhon Pact: Paths Of Disharmony. If we keep going at that pace, then keeping the crew for very long is going to seem a little implausible. But I for one wouldn't have any problem reading about adventures of this particular TNG crew for a while (though, I guess we'll see how many of them survive Mack's TNG trilogy next year, haha.)
