As pointed out in your other thread, the show wasn't cancelled it ended its run. Of course there was talk of a movie towards the end of the series, mostly by fans.
DS9's ratings would have scuttled any plans for a movie if Paramount ever really considered it. I doubt they did given that TNG was running as a movie series already. As for a direct to video, for whatever reason it has never featured as part of Paramount's plans for Star Trek.
As much as I thought DS9 was better than a lot of Trek shows (it had lots more character conflict) I don't think it'd lend itself to a feature film unless some of the Next Gen were included.
I was surprised that there wasn't a crossover between the two shows. I would have liked to have seen a plot where Sisko was Captain of Enterprise while Picard had to take temporary command of Deep Space Nine. I can only speculate here, as we all can, but the cost of keeping the actors and special effects up to quality all played a role into only having the show for seven years.
I believe more money was spent keeping the actors around. Look at the competing shows at the time like Stargate. Stargate had much more sci fi action and Trek like values. It was cheaper to film in Canada. All of the money went on the screen instead of the Hollywood system that must be more expensive in the U.S.
I think the only way there could have been a DS9 movie is if there had been only three Star Trek shows and DS9 was more popular than it was (at least equal to TNG by the time it ended).
