Funny Taylor Swift Hatred

^Some of us are heterosexual females with decent musical taste.

(I don't hate her, I just wish she'd get off my radio.)

You should get a MP3 player an load it up with music you like...that is what I do...I can't stand the stuff that passes for alternative rock now. :vulcan:

(I believe that dude in the video played Kris Kellar on OTH...forgot his real name. )

^I do that. It's only in the car, when I dare to try radio instead of my tired CDs, that she assaults my eardrums with her saccharine, simplistic twang. I've been burning a lot of new CDs lately and wishing I had MP3 support in my car. (Alas, ye olde car is olde.)

My car is old...I have the tape thing that connects to a MP3 or CD player...I hate the radio. I shouldn't like Taylor Swift...but I can't help it...she is lovely & her voice is great...IMHO...her lyrics are stupid in most cases...but I like her alot. :D

A bit too simplistic in my opinon. Be interesting to see if she grows as a writer in the coming years or plays its safe. She seems to have a good sense of humor and comedy and did a good job when she hosted SNL.

I like to take her "Love Story" song and change the lyrics to match Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet just to tease my wife.

In fairness, she is, what, 20(?) and writing her own material. As far as the content of her songs, I'd say give her a few years and see what happens.

And I remain convinced that Swift's "Love Story" was influenced by the Dire Straits take on Romeo & Juliet. :p
Which is my point. Will she show growth. The Beatles started out at about her age writing teen age rock and roll love ballads that appealed to a younger largely female demographic but rapidly grew as artists. Some of their contempories did not. The band who gave us "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" was probably not expected to produce "Yesterday" or "Tomorrow Never Knows." So it remains to be seen if Swift will be the Beatles or Herman's Hermits.

Good point. If I were to take a guess... I would say somewhere in between, tending towards Herman's Hermits. But we'll see. :techman:

I have a respect for Taylor Swift due to an interview I saw (maybe it was on Much Music here in Canada) where she was unapologetic for her songs mostly being about her past relationships and love. I thought it was pretty cool to admit she doesn't really have much basis to write about anything else.

I like a couple of her songs and thought she was decent in the movie "Valentine's Day". I read that she's currently dating Jake Gyllenhall. One of her songs is about John Mayer (surprise surprise lol).

I don't think is that bad.
I thought her cover of "Viva La Vida" was pretty tuneless, much like her cover of George Michael's "Last Christmas" from her Target Christmas album a few years ago. She sounds to me like someone who needs voice training. *shrug*

And I apologize Taylor lovers. Feel free to denigrate Tom Clancy at your leisure.

Didn't read, so I won't bother with the angst - but is this the Tom Clancy who writes those military potboilers or is the name coincidental?

It's that Tom Clancy. I thought I'd let Taylor lovers have a little revenge.

During the Reagan era, "Tom Clancy" was a punchline in a lot of Pentagon offices.

There's really nothing I don't like about Taylor Swift.

Taylor's actually become a bit of a meme in one of my circles. It started out with people sniping threads, the game of posting only for the purpose of claiming the top spot on a page. Then thanks to her last name and some of her bigger fans, it developed into Swift Sniping, where you posted an image of Taylor as well. Now a thread doesn't go by without at least one picture or mention of her.

Don't hate her. She just can't sing. Not a lick.
Have you been subjected her live cover of Coldplay's "Viva La Vida"? Her acoustic guitar work isn't terrible, but that voice! Oh, the horror, the horror!

Well I had the misfortune to hear her playing the live NFL kickoff event back in September. And it became painfully obvious very quickly that, out of the studio, she is a god-awful singer.

Her records are ok, but clearly they're auto-tuning her (or whatever that's called).

Taylor's an average singer, average songwriter, and I've got nothing against her or her music. She's quite adorable, though.

I basically would agree with that sentiment, except I would argue that she's actually a "below average" singer who gets a LOT of help in the recording studio with digital manipulation.

Which I wouldn't care except it just irks me that they can market someone of marginal to below marginal singing ability into a major superstar.
