Cause this paragraph made me laugh out loud:

Enter Kanye. Like me, this man doesn’t give a fuck about some bland little girl singing crappy love songs. But he seemed to overlook the fact that this demon sent to earth in the form of a pop singer had manipulated the general public into rooting for her banal existence. So when he got up on stage and said what everyone was thinking, the world rallied around her and treated him like a domestic terrorist. (even though he’d crashed award ceremonies like this before… and even though he had a valid fucking point. How dare he make that poor little white girl almost cry! Bad Kanye, bad!)

Read and enjoy Taylor haters!

And I apologize Taylor lovers. Feel free to denigrate Tom Clancy at your leisure.

You know, I'll be the first to admit I can't stand any of Taylor Swift's songs, but somehow I can't quite find it in me to work up that much hate towards her. Is it really that hard to turn off a radio or TV whenever a song or music video of hers is on?

Yes. You see, it's impossible to change a channel or a radio dial, because the media has you in their grip. They force you to like what they want you to like. You have no control. :borg:

Based on several posters in this forum, apparently there are actually people holding them at gunpoint making them watch every new episode of TV shows they hate.

i'll always like her just for the stupid skit they did on the CMAs where she was CG'd in to Trek. she seemed like she was willing to poke fun at herself and her image and that counts for a lot with me.

I still think Kanye West is an overrated jackass.

Still I think that paragraph summed it up pretty nicely. I don't hate Taylor Swift. I just find her music to be bland and lacking in anything even remotely resembling creativity, intensity or presence.

Didn't read, so I won't bother with the angst - but is this the Tom Clancy who writes those military potboilers or is the name coincidental?

Bought Speak Now a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, I love this kid - she's enormously talented and since her success is so much a function of her songwriting she's not going to fade away. Actually, as a stage performer she's a bit...peculiar.

It's that Tom Clancy. I thought I'd let Taylor lovers have a little revenge.

Honestly, I never really went out of my way to listen to her music or see her perform. Like Jack Bauer, I just find her hot, and I only came across this blog post in relation to an image search. I knew she had a rabid fan following, but I didn't know she'd also developed a commensurate anti-fan following.

Her songs make me want to take ice picks to my eardrums, but I just change the station when they come on.

Same here. Don't hate her. She just can't sing. Not a lick.

I do however hate the system that created her and made her famous.

I couldn't pick Taylor Swift out of a line-up, but what Kanye West did was fucking obnoxious. I don't care whether he was right about the award. He's a tool.

It can't have made the night any funner for Beyonce either. IIRC, she very sweetly invited Taylor Swift to come back up and give her acceptance speech during the 'slot' for Beyonce's own acceptance of a different award. But that meant Beyonce actually lost out on her moment too. It's not like she could really have gone up and accepted without addressing the earlier incident. So Kanye basically robbed them both of their chances to speak that night by making it all about his unsolicited opinion. It was a jackass move.

Saw her on Jay Leno the other night with Dane Cook and when they both stood up, she was towering over him.

Anyway, I like her. She's very pretty. I saw a clip of her from a recent award show and I didn't recognize her with straight hair and bangs. They showed the 2 or 3-second clip and said it was Taylor Swift and I thought they made a mistake.

My wife likes her a lot. I find her to be an average singer and songwriter. A bit too simplistic in my opinon. Be interesting to see if she grows as a writer in the coming years or plays its safe. She seems to have a good sense of humor and comedy and did a good job when she hosted SNL.

I like to take her "Love Story" song and change the lyrics to match Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet just to tease my wife.

In fairness, she is, what, 20(?) and writing her own material. As far as the content of her songs, I'd say give her a few years and see what happens.

And I remain convinced that Swift's "Love Story" was influenced by the Dire Straits take on Romeo & Juliet. :p

Which is my point. Will she show growth. The Beatles started out at about her age writing teen age rock and roll love ballads that appealed to a younger largely female demographic but rapidly grew as artists. Some of their contempories did not. The band who gave us "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" was probably not expected to produce "Yesterday" or "Tomorrow Never Knows." So it remains to be seen if Swift will be the Beatles or Herman's Hermits.

It's not cool to trash Taylor Swift.

That is like kicking a puppy. It just makes you look evil. :rommie:
