Ok... I notice that first there was FullMetal Alchemist... saw those with subtitles.... pretty good story... then I notice that there is a new Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.... that is in japanese with english subtitles, those seem to be the old story just redone a little bit.... now I see that there is a new Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood in english... same story just more understandable....

can anybody explain what the differences are?

Here we go, more or less.

First, there was the Fullmetal Alchemist manga (aka comic book). It was an ongoing story. At some point an anime was commissioned before the manga was finished. The anime starts out as a relatively faithful adaptation of the manga.

About half-way through the anime, they caught up with where the manga was at. Until this point, the anime and manga were telling essentially the same story. After that half-way point the two stories diverged, as was the plan. This made two distinctly different Fullmetal Alchemist stories, the manga version and the anime version.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a more faithful anime adaptation of the manga version of the story.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood with English subtitles is the same as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in English, except the whole series isn't available in English yet because it is still being dubbed.

Yep, the big difference between the two series is that the first series only covers liket eh first 6 volumes of the manga and then makes a bunch of stuff up. The new series is going pretty much exactly by the manga. Personally I find this to be a good thing since the manga story was superior to the first anime's story.

You could even say that we got the alternate universe version first, and then real one comes along.
Lt Trull, I had much the same reaction initially. Loved the first series and couldn't understand why they felt the need to redo it over again. But once Brotherhood gets past the early storylines and diverges from the storylines of the 1st series, you'll Be just as blown away with it as you were FMA.

I hope so.... I wasn't quite happy with the ending of the first one....
Alchemy is not rocket science but going to work for nazi germany.....
but, come on.... think of something more original....

Brotherhood is pretty similar to the first series for about the first 10-15 episodes, with some minor differences, until a certain common event and then goes in a completely different direction with a broader scoped storyline and some new faces. Also some of the homunculus are different than the first series.

I watched up until 41 or so until I heard it was going to be on AS and stopped watching the streaming subs from Funimation because I like the dub cast better.

I think I'm gonna wait until the dub is fully released before I start watching.
