Full Circle

ROFL. The only reason Trek is here is because of obsessive fans like the "militant Janewayites." In the 1970's, we Trekkies were obnoxious to the extreme and were openly ridiculed, even by "get a life" Shatner (and we loved it). We wouldn't let go and, because of that, The Motion Picture came out and then TNG hit the airwaves. The rest is history. :techman:

So you aren't on the "bring Janeway back bandwagon," that's fine. We are rabid fans of what we like in the grand Star Trek tradition. Just wave and let us toss you coffee-flavored candy as we drive by!;)

That's not obsession; it's fervor and unflinching dedication, which I can admire.

Obsession is the type of behavior that has been seen from Brit and some others (insinuating/stating that people like myself, Bill J, and JB aren't 'fans' of Janeway and/or Voyager, acting like it's "their way or the highway", calling us to task for not looking at/commenting on something that had absolutely no relevance whatsoever to the Janeway-centric discussion that came to quickly dominate this thread).

I have not called you names or insinuated that you are suffering from mental instability; you have no way to know that. It’s an old sick argument, designed to diminish me, it isn’t fair and you really need to stop it. You don’t have to like me but you do have to respect me. I have simply stated that I want what I want and I am willing to fight for it. It is your argument that is the “It’s my way or the Highway” not mine. It’s also interesting that you are claiming the position of the judge of what is relevant or isn’t relevant. You might not agree, but you are out of line making that judgment.

But you know what the most relevant thing about this thread is? Both you and BillJ have only posted in this thread in the Voyager Forum. You both post in Trek Lit a lot, but in the Voyager forum you have only posted here in this one single thread.

Brit

Maybe because this is the thread relevant to literature? Like it or not, Voyager gained fans on the BBS with the re-relaunch and so when there's a thread about it that appears, they'll post in it.

For the record we've never said "it's my way or the highway" but merely pointed out that you are depriving yourselves of novels which we believe are good.

Oh and because I was being accused of being neither a Voyager, nor Janeway fan, head over to the thread entitled 11:59, where I just wrote a long review of the episode where I praise not only Janeway, but Mulgrew too...shocking I know!

So damn true. Frankly, I don't care one way or the other that she's dead, but the fanatical church of Janeway makes me feel ashamed to like Voyager due to association.

Says the guy posting on a Star Trek message board on the interwebs. "Ashamed?" LOL. You're a Trekkie. When you tell your non-Trekkie buddies that you're a Trekkie, I bet they don't give two shits which show or characters you like.

If you feel "ashamed" to like a show because you are put off by a couple people on a message board who like it in a way you consider obsessive then you are REALLY taking things too seriously. Ashamed about something you enjoy in your own time because of what some people post on trekbbs?

Where in anything that I've said did I say or imply that you insulted my mental stability? All that I have said is that you have called into question my level of devotion to Janeway's character, which is true (you flat-out stated that I wasn't "acting like a fan"), accused me and JB of thinking that "Janeway is rotten", and repeatedly ascribed attitudes and feelings/opinions to me, JB, and Bill J that are not supported or backed up in any way by anything that we have said (such as the above-mentioned "you think Janeway is rotten" thing, as well as accusing us of believing that "there is no place in the Voyager fandom for anyone who likes the Janeway character").

I do find it ironic that you accuse my judgment of what is or is not relevant to this thread as "being out of line" when the novel synopsis to which you linked and referred has nothing whatsoever to do with either Star Trek Voyager or Kathryn Janeway, which makes it (gasp) irrelevant to the discussion at hand. If something has nothing to do with what is being discussed, that thing is irrelevant to what is being discussed, because that is what the word 'irrelevant' means.

Actually, I do post now and then. But I simply find the Voyager, Deep Space Nine and Enterprise forums mostly devoid of topics worth commenting on.

It was mentioned up the thread the SNL sketch "get a life" and while it was a joke, there was a reason it was there...and we all get tarred with the same brush

For example, I am a member of the conservative party. Every person in Great Britain makes a judgement about me upon knowing that fact, and the default view is that I hate the poor and like the private sector. Which is half true. So when someone hears Trek Fan, they don't see the rational people who will sit around and discuss the show rationally for a few hours, they see the woman who turned up for jury duty in a uniform, insisting she wants to be called "Commander!"

And each and every time you tell someone you are a star trek fan you have the opportunity to widen their mental image of what a star trek fan is like. Don't worry about how other people express their fandom.

Be the fan you want to see in the world.

:guffaw:

yes I am laughing at my own humor :p

Luckily the people I know recognise that being a Trek fan is nothing compared to a damn dirty tory, so i get off lightly!

Also for a moment I actually thought you were serious :p

Wow, I sounded positively surly.

Sorry about that. It was a very long day. I still stand by my point, though.

Also, that poor guy who started this thread asking about ship types must be pretty disappointed...

He just might be.

I think this is the first thread I've seen to go off topic on the first post.
