I know this has probably been discussed, and discussed... but what are the feelings out there on the ship types in the Full Circle fleet?
I figure (the unknowns):
Curie/Hawking = Nebula Slipstream variant
Demeter = Luna slipstream variant
Planck = Norway
Achilles = Prometheus
Galen = something similar to the Prometheus middle section, with down swept pylons.
I know these details are not critical to the story telling process but I like to mod ST:Legacy, and having a Full Circle mission requires something fills the void.
My reasoning for these is this: In Kirsten Beyer's Full Circle, the fleet had two new Vestas, and so it was implied that the rest were refits. In the wake of the Borg invasion, it's highly unlikely that they would have engineered new ship classes for slipstream; that is what the Vesta was about as a testbed. They would need to use compatable existing hulls. Also, the only ship given depth of description is the Galen, also implying it is the most unique and experimental.
The one that I really, really feel should fit is the Achilles. First, even though the naming conventions don't follow exclusive rules, it fits as a Prometheus class name. The class seems like one that would be slipstream compatable. Also, even though it is has the multi-vector trick, it can easily be a modular frame allowing a special outfit for fleet supplies.
The deal maker on that one though is what I imagine the Nova/Miranda Galen would look like. The first time we all saw MVAM, I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking the middle part could almost stand alone. Add one deck under the saucer and you have 6, as mentioned in Unworthy, and just use lowered pylons that extrend a short way from the star drive and you have chasis that is easily modified from an existing one.
Having been a military vet, the real logistical process is one that Trek seldom accomodates, however, the use of an existing platform, which we know was quite hologram friendly, is much easier to believe than building up from scratch, especially after a massive war. Why redesign a frame when you don't need to? Adapt...
I'm sure most of what is coming in Kirsten's new book is already written, and my projections about a Luna or Norway in the fleet are just guesses, but add in the potential modularity of merging with a Promie saucer in an emergency (of what kind I'm not sure) and you might have a new degree of flexibility that such a taskforce would require.
