Full Circle Partial Prologue on Amazon (Spoilers)

If nothing else, it's a fairly massive bitchfix over the whole Chakotay/Seven relationship. "Halfhearted attempts" indeed.

Either way, not enough to judge one way or the other; certainly tragic, but not much else to say yet.

This book is going to do Voyager some justice. I just know it. Even though I resent Janeway's death, it still might have at least one positive effect on the story for me - it may prevent the story to become too sugar-coated and syrupy, especially now when it seems that the story has some J/C aspects in it.

Not to mention that the gang from my beloved series are getting their own book. FINALLY there is going to be a new Voyager story without our gang being demoted as minor characters in TNG books.

This book has definitely potential to become my favorite Trek book of all time. :techman:

It seems like he'll still be defined in terms of his relationship to Janeway instead of evolving as a character in his own right.

That's a lot to assume on the basis of only one scene. "Emissary" focused heavily on Ben Sisko's relationship to his wife, but his whole character over the course of the series wasn't defined solely by that relationship. A single case never proves a larger pattern.

i was able to read about 50 pages of excerpts scattered throughout the book by clicking the "surprise me" link. if these pages are any indication, it's going to be a great page turner.

I agree with Tach, I am looking forward to this book because it is a Voyager book.

The little J/C cookie will be nice, like them saying "okay you guys were right there is something between them" of course they're not going to say what though.

And I know KJ has to die. Still can't help getting sad over it :(

Can't wait for this book. I have to get both Spirit Walk books first of course and then read this. I prefere it that way, so I can know some more of the new crew first.

if you don't have "homecoming" and "farther shore" you'll need those as well b/c the non-series characters are set up there. in reading all four books, it felt more like the books were written as a quadrilogy even the first two books were one adventure and the last two books were another adventure.

i don't want to color your perception of them but, be warned in that they got very mixed reviews. however, i thought for the most part they were decent.

Yeah get them from the library if at all possible.

I've been looking forward to Full Circle, but for some reason that preview turned me off a tad. The thought of Chakotay pining over Janeway all those years makes him look like a putz, IMO. It seems like he'll still be defined in terms of his relationship to Janeway instead of evolving as a character in his own right. I'll still read the book (I've had it pre-ordered for some time), but I'm not looking forward to it as much as I once was. I sure hope my assumptions are wrong.

Well said.

My sentiments exactly.

True. Like I said in my earlier post, I hope my assumptions are wrong.

FWIW, I'd never read the Voyager "Relaunch" series before reading Kirsten's book, and she does a perfectly fine job of (re)introducing the characters and plot elements and bringing the audience up to speed.

^good. i was afraid i was going to have to re-read the previous four novels and i don't think i have that kind of time right now.

Well, I have zero interest in the Christie Golden books, but I'm really looking forward to this one. The Trek authors always do an excellent job of not assuming you've read any given other book, and based on William's (and others') comments to that effect, I'm not at all worried about feeling lost.

^Any chance we can get the whole Prologue posted up somewhere or at least the rest of that mid-sentence break?

If you go to the Amazon link, click on 'Look inside' and then 'surprise me!', there are quite a few other excerpts there, including the rest of the prologue. (You might have to click 'surprise me' a few times until it comes up.)

:)

You can also try the "search inside" feature if you want to find out tidbits about certain parts...I personally played around with what a search for "Borg" produces.

And I think that, technically, if you really wanted to read the book right now, you could cheat and use the "search inside the book" feature to read the whole thing: do a search for "6", read the first page, "7", read the next, so on and so forth right through page 560 or whatever. But it seems more trouble than it's worth; I'd rather just wait and have the book in hand (at least now that I've verified the truth about that infamous casualty report from ASD!)

I understand where you're coming from, but, to be honest, Chakotay looked like a putz, period. He was never really "defined" to begin with. Throughout the series, his character never truly evolved, and the lousy handling of the J/C aspect was only one part of the issue. However, in regards to that issue, the original plan was to put Janeway and Chakotay together, but after Jeri Taylor left, it was dropped. The original "will they/won't they" J/C moments created a buttload of fans, who were subsequently ticked-off by both the innattention the writers paid the pairing, and that stupid C/7 nonsense.

It left things in limbo. At least it looks like FC will finally address the issue and resolve it once and for all. I'm really hoping this is an opportunity for Chakotay to finally start moving forward.

On a personal note, I get rather tired of constant fan complaints, fights, and wars over romantic entanglements. Ultimately, I think there are more interesting things in 'Trek then who's sleeping with who.

BTW, I spent an embarrassing amount of time playing with the "Search Inside" function, and I stumbled across a conversation that I think addresses your concerns.

Let's just say, I don't think "grieving Chakotay" will hang around much past FC. And even if he spents FC in "grief mode," if you've ever lost someone you care about, you know it's not something you can just "get over." He'll be a sad-sack in this book, and hopefully move on by Unworthy.

i agree with most of what you said, but i always thought they put the J/C debate to rest with the "resolutions" episode. i've read that jeri taylor really pushed the P/T romance, but not so much the J/C romance. IMO, i believe her battle with braga to bring the P/T romance to fruition was part of the reason she left. braga, it's been said, wanted a P/7 romance but didn't get it. he eventually got it with the trip/t'pol pairing though. but, that's why he was on record as saying the P/T pairing was barely touched upon during the 5th and 6th seasons.

as far as the romantic entanglements, there really weren't many as far as trek goes. there was certainly a lot of teasing and failed relationships throughout TNG and DS9 so i was actually glad that they allowed, kept and somewhat explored a relationship in one of the series without them breaking up or having one of the characters die. i don't think it detracted from the overall story and added some realism (at least) to this series since there was the possibility that they were going to be on a ship for the rest of their lives.
