s'kay, I envy those who can draw living things, or do computer and CGI modelling, or MSds and such, all those things make my brain hurt :)

Pike Class Multirole Light Cruiser

Weight Class: Light Cruiser

Overview:

Built along lines reminiscent of the much larger Sovereign class heavy cruiser, the Pike class fulfills a multipurpose role in Starfleet inventories. Designed to eventually replace the older Challenger and Cheyenne classes, as well as being able to be built in greater numbers than more specialized platforms, the Pike carries the most modern shielding and weapon systems.

Some think that the Pike is named for the ancient terran spear, and indeed it's six torpedo launch systems have one of the longest engagement ranges of any Starfleet vessel partly due to it's torpedo type and also partly due to a launch system that utilizes a gravometric pulse drive that accelerates the torpedo by 'twisting' the pull of the artificial gravity in the launch tubes, allowing for a much faster torpedo launch. This system is thus far unique to this class of vessel, and when mated with an advanced target predictor system - makes the Pike a deadly opponant at standoff range - close in it's phasers make it equivalent to an Intrepid in firepower.

Despite what some think the name stands for, though, the truth is that this class of ship is named for Captain Christopher Pike, a former commanding officer of the Enterprise before the legendary James T. Kirk took command of that vessel.

Sweet stuff! It reminds me of the Pandora-Class freighter. It should have modular (Danube-Class runabout variety), easy to swap-out engineering hull compartments on the Pike. A "C.O.E"-dedicated ship.

I had to go hunt around the net for a reference to this since you did not provide a link and if you could, please do so in the future? Most of the time I have NO idea what people talk about when they reference one fanmade class or another - keep in mind I don't really surf site like scifi meshes and stuff, most of my sketches are done on scrap paper at work, and then scanned in at home, actually. Which does make for interesting conversations when one of my security officers comes into my dispatch area and looks over my shoulder, lol.

That being said, i really don't see a resemblance between the two, and also I don't really see a need to create modular engineering compartments, either. So maybe you could explain the rationale there?

In any case, glad ya like it, i'll probably cook up more views to it. I dont do that with every ship I sketch out, mostly because of time constaints placed on me, and because of the fact that my orthographs suck rocks right now, lol.

Very interesting! It seems like it could be a circa 2365 ship, somewhere between the Enterprise-D and Voyager. :)

You're probably gonna say, "Boy, what kinda drugs are you on?" But dang, if this ship doesn't look like it's got funky intakes going into the secondary hull, where the saucer impulse engines actually are.

Mind you, I actually LIKE the intake look; makes me wonder, what in the heck is going ON in that engineering hull, that it needs intakes? Sucker must be cool and hot!

Actually, I'd put the impulse engines on the nacelle pylons & not on the saucer. I love the idea that the highlighted module door is a boarding hatch or maintenance / jeffries tube hatch.

From the random Arkady-is-bored-at-work-again-catagory

USS Albion, Britannia Class Corvette

Short overview:

The ships of the Britannia class are relatiely few in number, and although obstensibly classified as a scientific scout vessel, the real forte of these small ships is reconnaissance, and intelligence operations for Starfleet.

Very Nice TNG era Design there and cool Name :) :techman:

... I love the idea that the highlighted module door is a boarding hatch or maintenance / jeffries tube hatch.

Or maybe it could be a door that covers a device or sensor system or weapons system of some kind. Probert wanted to have doors covering the photorp tubes on the Refit Enterprise, so maybe this could be something similar.

Actually, it's the impulse engines on the back of the saucer section. You're just mentally displacing it to being a door on the secondary hull.

Yes, I know.

What I'm saying is, I really dig it as a door. A big-ass honkin' door hiding some sort of a device that can really open up a can of galactic-sized whup-ass!

Nah.

And as much as the Okie in me wants to devote an entire deck to beer storage and barbeque - you're not getting that, either.

(okay maybe the beer storage.)

hadnt really been around other than lurking, took some time off while debating whether to scrap this thread completely.

in any case...

Romulan 'Heron'

Analogous to a Federation Runabout in size and function, bigger than the shuttle on DS9 - like all Romulan vessels is fitted with a cloaking device.

And it's smaller cousin.

Romulan 'Shrike'

Basically its a small recon scout, sharing much of the same lines as its larger cousin - it is intended for covert operations and intelligence gathering missions - so more than likely would be found in the employ of the tal shiar and deployed from a larger class of vessel.
